CC "badge"... Could you get in trouble with it

Until stupid becomes a crime, you cannot get into trouble for just having a CCW badge

I would agree with that except for New Mexico that specifically outlaws "carry". Bdage collectors might find one amusing along with that "Brothel Inspector" badge shown in the post above.

When I lived in San Francisco, CA I came across a badge that read:

"Stadium Wiener & Beverage Inspector".

Years ago, S.F.'s main sports stadium was located south of Mrket Street and was home to the baseball team "San Francisco Seals." I am not sure which league, I suspect Minor. Apparently, as it was explained to me, the S.F. Department of Health recruited volunteer Reserve Inspectors to keep booze out of the stadium. To legitmize the infringement upon the right to drink, the City also felt they had to inspect the hot dogs vendors product. Either that or someone had a very warped sense of humor.

This subject arises periodically and the usual result is, yes a CCW badge is a bad thing. Should you ever be in a situation where your holding a gun on a BG and the police arrive, drop your gun and let it sort itself out. By all means identify yourself as having a CCW but don't go flashing a badge.

The thing I don't understand is, the majority that engage in these discussions concur that the "badge" is a bad idea, yet people still keep trying to find some justification on why it would or might be a good thing.
My point is, my opinion is not going to change so,,, You probably will not accept the wisdom of the many members here that speak against the idea,,, so just buy the badge and wear it,,, you know you want to anyway.

It works even better if while flashing your badge you bark orders to the cops like "Stand down, the situation is under control." or refer to them as "your backup" :p

Why wear a badge when CCW IS A FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT? Like the right to life and liberty. After all, you don't go around wearing a badge that says : HOLDER OF THIS BADGE HAS THE RIGHT TO LIFE AND LIBERTY, don't you? Then, you don't need a badge for CCW. CCW IS what makes Life and Liberty possible, therefore, it is a fundamental right.

On another thread someone posted about an IQ test for gun people - well this is a real life IQ test. If you wear a CCW badge you failed the test. :)

"Check Check Check" "Little Squirrel to Home Base Delta - all clear at the Rebel Mini Mart" "Headed to Starbucks to check the action there"

Are CCW badges better or worse than EMT badges? I must admit I was somewhat taken aback the first time I saw one of those, and that doesn't happen to me very often.

I do still want a "Highly Qualified" badge, though. All you school teachers out there know what I'm talking about.

I find this one particularly amusing. I dont think James Bond carried a badge...

Unless there's a local law prohibiting badges, I don't see where there would be a legal problem unless the badge actually said something like "Austin Police Department" or something of the sort. After all, if the badge doesn't have the name of a REAL police agency, you're not impersonating a REAL cop, right?

Security guards (mall ninjas) have badges that say something like "Security" . . . but that doesn't make them LEOs. Especially if their only sidearm is a walkie-talkie.

Of course, carry a CHL badge, and you may tick off a REAL LEO, who will then go looking - hard - for a way to cause you some grief.

As for myself, the only badge I carried said something like "Dick Tracy Junior G-Man" . . . and I was about 8 years old at the time. ;)

International Special Agent? How about International Man of Mystery?

Ohhh behave!

Would I be out over stepping my lowly status here if I proposed that all future threads about badges be forever banned from THR in the interests of all human kind?

Most of the advice you got is correct, only wannabe's buy those things. I have been harrassed for having my wallet open with a real courtesy badge from a different state. I had a Rode Island Statey, read me the riot act when he saw a courtesy shield in my wallett. You NY guys know that it's norrmal to get courtesy shields for friends and family, or at least it used to be 20 yrs ago. As soon a my cousin rolled up and he saw I was a friend of the family, he invited us in for a drink, nearby "after hours" of course. But in NY that courtesy shield saved my butt on more than one occasion. Wearing a ccw badge is just asking for trouble, and if you get stopped by the wrong guy, it can ruin your day. Also if it looks like the local deputy sherriffs, or state police, fbi, badge, you are in deep do do, they can get you for impersonation, and there goes five grand in court costs.

And yet another example of one law for cops (and apparently cop friends) another law for the rest of us

From other threads on this forum it seems that cops have a really slow response time. Why worry about the cops? You should have enough time to clean your firearm, replenish ammo, and place it back in your holster before they arrive....

Generally bad idea. You aren't a cop, theres no reason for a badge as you have no reason to display it.

I see one and only one use for these things. Keep it on the belt next to the gun just in case a gust of wind comes along or something happens that your ccw is briefly visible, the sheep are less likely get scared if they catch a flash of badge along with the gun. Thats the only logical thing I can think of regarding ccw badges.

However, it screams likely mall ninja if I saw someone with one. And I'd recommend having a good lawyer if you ever actually present it, because you should expect charges of impersonating a police officer.

becoming a poop farmer and wearing a poop farming badge on your shirt.
How does one become one of these fabled poop farmers? Does it require special training? It would be pretty sweet to have a badge so I can be deified and treated with respect by others.
