Texas has some harsh animal cruelty laws.
That sounds like Ohio's insane laws. Someone dropped off a dog in front of my house. I try to call the dog catcher only to find they have shut down that office because of lack of funds. I called the sheriff's office on advice from a person who worked at a shelter and was told there was nothing they could do. I said I would just put it down rather than watch it starve. Oh no. Can't do that. It's illegal. So a big starving dog is roaming my yard trying to steal food and threatening everything in sight. I politely told that deputy that I would just take the dog to Kentucky and shoot it which is only about 2 miles from my house. I thought the woman was going to explode right on the telephone. I laughed and hung up.
NOBODY is going to tell me that I have to live with some wild animal in my yard. They assumed I would feed the dog instead of watching it starve. That's the typical do-gooder attitude. Force you to do what they think should be done. Wrong.
I won't say how that story ended. I will say I didn't feed the dog and it is no longer hanging out in my yard. I can't afford to feed every dog on the planet and if you take in strays you will quickly get a reputation and about 50 new dogs a month.
It's insane. A feral dog is a terribly dangerous animal. They kill far more people than all wild animals combined. They have no fear of humans most of the time. Some do I guess. That kind can be worse. I used to get feral pit bulls roaming through my yard. I had small children at the time. The day I decided to end that problem someone else must have done it before I could. I never saw them again. A pit bull generates more biting force than a leopard. And they operate with a pack mentality at times. Yeah I need to have a yard full of those.
A neighbor down the road from me had a lab that they fed regular. It ate once a month whether it needed it or not. It came to my yard and stole the food of my dogs and growled at my wife and kids. I went to the owner's house and said do something. He did. For about a week. It came back. That was before the law about killing dogs. It never came back again. It didn't go home again either.
Stupid people who live in cities have NO idea what it's like in the country and they don't care apparently. They actually think the entire country is carved up into blocks with a cop on every corner. The problem is there are too many people in cities. They have an inordinate amount of influence over our government. I have the RIGHT to live without fear of being attacked by wild animals including wild dogs and wild cats.
SSS. It's something every country boy knows these days.
