I am aware HK has, since the introduction of the USP, offered a number of different variants for their hammer fired handguns. I am interested in knowing how one goes about this process. Is there a list of qualified armorers somewhere? Do I have to send it into the factory? If I was looking to have an HK45 changed from Variant 7 with the LEM and no control lever to a Variant 9 with an ambi safety and no decocker, how would I go about that? I am assuming I would be able to have some night sights and Grayguns trigger components installed at the same time?

I haven't owned an HK45. I have owned ~10 USPs over the years. For the USP, it's trivial, takes me a couple of minutes to change out the detent plate. Going to LEM trigger is a little more work. None of it is hard.

Here's a video that explains how to change the detent plate:

It's a little over 4 minutes long.

If you want to go to the LEM trigger, it's a bit more involved, but easily done by someone at home.

I use Bill Springfield ,Bill Springfield [[email protected]], reasonable prices quick turnaround, I have sent all 4 of my H&Ks to him for trigger work. Grays guns also wonderful, Lazy Wolf Guns also a super star. All these guys discussed on You Tube with high Praise. My first H&K was a USPc great carry weapon, I own two LEM trigger systems with one having a short reset done, wow is all I can say. All the variants have their plus and minuses, It is just a matter of taste and personal preference. Although after years of owning H&Ks I do wish I would have settled on one system and stayed with it on all of my Handguns from H&K

I've only swapped out 3 HK triggers myself, but one of them was an HK45.

Hit HK.net (Forum), there are tutorials and parts lists, to include spring weight tables to let you get the exact combination you're looking for. Order the parts directly from HK USA, you will save $$$ and the guys are great to deal with. Sometimes they're a little slow ion shipping, but it's worth it. Watch a couple Youtube videos and knock it out yourself. Common punches (roll pin) is all you'll need. If you send me a PM I'll even lend you the pliers that are ground out to make the trigger return spring easier to install.

For the hard stuff, like reset reductions I've sent mine off to Lazy Wolf guns. I've used him for my P series guns that have the "stupid long" reset, not the case with the HK45.
