I know, it sounds like an oxymoron.

Does anyone have experience with Outdoor Marksmans "Factory New" no-name .44 mag 240g SWC or TMJ? Anyone know who makes it? I'm guessing it's not Miwall, since OM has no problems naming other Miwall ammo.

My other choice is Georgia Arms 240g SWC. The OM SWC (950 fps) is closer to the heat I want in SWC fodder than the Georgia Arms (1150 fps).

The Georgia Arms RNFP cowboy ammo is actually more on par with the Outdoor Marksman SWC . Georgia Arms runs their lead SWC close to the Outdoor Marksman TMJ listed velocity. Anyone have problems with leading from the Georgia Arms ammo?

.44 Magnum is almost as good a reason to start reloading as .45 Colt (a.k.a .45LC) is. They both like big cast bullets and hefty charges of Unique or Herco.

Hi Dain...

Have you compared all those Magnum ammo types to the cheaper .44 Specials ? The .44 Special factory stuff is seriously underloaded (compared to its' actual capability) and is often very, very accurate. In fact, at one time, the .44 Special was a premier target handgun round.

240g tcfp over 2400. Repeat as necessary.

Enjoyment of 'plinking' with .44 mag and .357 mag forced me into reloading, I never looked back. Whatever low priced ammo you might suggest won't come close in price or quality to what I can assemble myself, and it's way more fun that way!

I haven't been checking out 44 Special because it generally doesn't offer any price break over magnums. Georgia Arms Gold Dots and 200g RNFP are the same price in both calibers (they don't have the SWC in Specials).

And even the leisurely 950fps Outdoor Marksman .44mag SWCs are hot by .44 Special standards.

bestshotammo.com has excellent prices on reloads in once shot brass. You can only order in 500 or 1000 rounds! I regularly shoot their 45acp and .357!

yep, I have bought ~ 3000 rounds from them. they are a small company and sometimes customer service is less than spectacular on occasion...but their ammo and prices a first class (44mag $13/50 for 240gr SWC)

Tumbled range brass + 240-gr HC lead SWC + 9.7gr Titegroup + Win LP primer = $5.00 per box/50 rounds of .44 Magnum ammo.

Locally, new stuff is $25-$30 a box of 50.

10 boxes new = $300

10 boxes reloads' component cost = $50
Cost of a press, dies, tumbler, etc. all eqpt to start reloading= $250

Load ten boxes of .44 mags, get your entire reloading setup for free.

What's not to like?
