You gotta love it. The VP runs in social circles where negligent discharges are accepted as a matter of course! "Oh, yes, these things do happen, you know ..."

:barf:

I see they're already blaming the victim

Yeah, that's no good.

It's an unspoken rule but when walking a line for birds we've always either helped search for the downed bird or held our position until the guy who left the line returns to his position. Now I know why. I've always thought it was because getting ahead of others put me at risk though, not the other way around.

It's supposed to be team work. Why would Cheney leave the guy behind? The guy shouldn't have had to announce himself

Maybe if Dick Cheney had gotten some military training on firearm handling, instead of his five deferments for service in Vietnam - this tragic accident would have been prevented.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- James and Sarah Brady made comments today related to Vice President Cheney's reportedly accidental shooting yesterday in Texas.

"Now I understand why Dick Cheney keeps asking me to go hunting with him," said Jim Brady. "I had a friend once who accidentally shot pellets into his dog - and I thought he was an idiot."

"I've thought Cheney was scary for a long time," Sarah Brady said. "Now I know I was right to be nervous."

My local anti-gun, anti-hunting Liberal news show used that story as the main one, then jumped from that to the war news in Iraq.

Now, I think Cheney's getting a bad rep on this one. The article clearly states the guy came up behind them and did not announce himself as they were tracking birds. I'd think anyone walking up behind people with loaded guns would be smart enough to announce himself. Sounds to me like Whittington was the one negligent. If you're following a bird in your sights and some fool doesn't announce he's there, I don't know how I'd see him either.

As for him being behind Cheney, no hunter has ever turned completely around from the direction they were pointing following a bird in their sights?

It is not a sport if you can't get hurt.
Without a doubt the lamest, most craven justification I've ever seen for poor gun handling that led to a nearly fatal accident. I suppose you'll also urge the NFL to get rid of helmets and pads on the grounds that they make it too safe.

As an enviromentalist and animal rights type guy I do not like Cheney at all but...accidents happen....just because it is someone prominent should not make it any worse than it is but we all know it will.

That seems an awfull mild comment from the Brady nitwits. Maybe they'll weigh in tomorrow with some genuine leftist extremist vitriol.

They know not to attack hunting too strongly, they've had their own Kerry out with the shotgun for photo ops.

Hunting is still OK in their whole "sporting purposes" thing remember?

After the handguns, EBRs etc are gone, then the shotguns. They still need a photo of Billary on a dove hunt to counter the anti claims.

Someone needs to go back to Hunter Safety Class...

Neither one of them should have let the other get into a position where this was a possibility.

On the other hand, he only shot a lawyer. I mean, so what, really?:p

response removed, because I feel for some reason that making fun of this incident will give fuel to the antis who might come here guaging responses. And I do think antis check these types of forums out from time to time. Chastising for disregarding safety firearms rules is one thing, making fun of it quite another.

I hear he's inviting Hillary up for next weekend.
So he blasted his lawyer? :)

Quail hunting is a tricky sport... I suppose the accident is just that...nothing more...

Anybody hear whether Cheney got the quail? Shouldn't this thread be in HUNTING section?
