Was it back in the 20's with the prohibition act and all the alcohol controled gangsters? IS this a newer trend since the 70's? Just wondering...

A petition to the Illinois state constitutional convention of 1922 called for the "suppression of the manufacture, transportation and sale of" concealable weapons "so far as private individuals are concerned."

Other proposals made in the 1920s to ban firearms were linked with demands for the infringement of other civil liberties. A committee of the American Bar Association concluded that "the revolver serves no useful purpose in the community today. We recommend that the manufacture and sale of pistols . . . shall be absolutely prohibited."

I'm pretty sure the Fascist Daily and his Alderman cronies are to blame for what we have today in Chicago.

Thank goodness we have such exhaulted leaders to look out for us...I just don't know what I'd do without them. And such results! Why, I don't think there's been any handgun crime at all in Chicago since they graciously agreed to do our thinking for us. All hail our great leaders, ALL HAIL!!!

It started in the late '70s.

When I bought my first handgun around '79, I had no problem buying or owning a handgun in the city of Chicago. I just had to register it and there was no problem doing so. When I bought my Series 70 Colt in Oak Lawn, it was actually easier to buy a gun and own it in Chicago than in St. Louis. I needed nobody's permission. I just needed a (shall issue) FOID, rather than the wildly inconsistent MO "sheriff's permission". It was only a little later that they imposed the "moratorium" so that only criminals could register new handguns in Chicago. Illinois has never had concealed carry in my lifetime.

There isn't a problem with the city, the problem lies with the politicians.
No, it's with the populace. The politicians can only rig so many votes. Stupid people still vote for them.

Case in point:

Any Black person in Chicago will tell you how incompetent, corrupt, racist and brutal the Chicago Police Department is. So, who do they overwhelmingly elect as Mayor? The guy who was Cook County State's Attorney when the Chicago PD was extracting confessions from suspects using beatings, burnings and electrical shocks to genitals. Surprisingly, the majority of torture victims were NOT Lapplanders.

It's like Jews repeatedly electing Klaus Barbie as Prime Minister of Israel...

Most people in Illinois are pro-gun. Probably in downstate Illinois and most cities outside of ****cago, 3 or 4 houses out of 5 have SOME form of firearm in them. Be it an antique firearm or a relic from a war gone by many years ago that a distant relative carried into combat. It was in the mid to late 1960s that the corrupt Democrats started all their anti-gun craziness in Chicago. King Richard Daley the First, father of this present ruler of Chicago called Richard the Second, decided that he didn't like guns and managed to pass down his ignorance to his small minded offspring. Like the original English King Richard II we all know that his one also has a defective or sick mind. Most people who live in Illinois just want to annex Chicago to some socialist/terrorist state like Columbia or Bolivia and let dirtbags like Chavez rule the place. Either give it away or build a wall all the way around it a mile high and then fill the thing completely full of water. No, the people of Chicago are nice. It is just their dirty, corrupt politicians that give it a bad name. Heck, Chicago hasn't had an HONEST ELECTION since before the Civil War. That's how far back the Chicago corruption goes. People in downstate Illinois keep hoping and praying that one day the feds will finally clean up that mess in Chicago and set things right.

Two of my posts have been labeled `blantantly political` Both were locked. How can you guys talk about anti`s in Chicago`s politics and get away with it here? How can this thread have even gone this far for this long without being locked?
Just asking, you know?
It`s my understanding that discussing politics of any form on this forum is banned.

I really hope we see some progress in Chicago in the next 5-7 years. I really like it around here but, when it comes time for me to move, I will move out of Cook County if I have too.

The only sports teams, I, personally consider any consequence at all in the over all scheme of political and social life are the various military marksmanship units, and they don't make millions of undeserved $.

Do they give autographs? Tim Tebow does. He's nice.

I don't think your locked threads had anything to do with firearms. If I recall correctly one was a Sarah Palin qualification poll and the other was about Bigfoot. If Bigfoot was packing heat you might have pulled that one off though. Bigfoot probably shoots a Desert Eagle.

Uuuummmmm, yeah right. :scrutiny:

Unless every election for the last however many years has been absolutely rigged, the PEOPLE of the CITY, keep voting these corrupt politicians into office. The PEOPLE of the CITY and COUNTY keep the same political system in place that has led to all of this corruption.

The bottom line - This is a problem with the County, the City, and the People that keep voting this into effect.

You many not be one of them, but you are obviously in the minority. What I will never understand is the hypocrisy people put up with from their elected officials. Take your pick, guns, taxes, global warming, etc... They are all a bunch of damn hypocrites that think it is good for others, but not for them.

Don't forget the racist origins of Gun Control. After the JFK, RFK and MLK assassinations and riots, The Powers That Be(tm), got nervous that "those" people have guns and we need to get guns out of "their" hands. It really took off after the 1970 Constitution was ratified and the Morton Grove decision.
