I just recently acquired a Chinese type 59 Makarov 9X18 (from an individual), that was advertised in the local classifieds as NIB. I purchased it as a CCW but when I realized it really was a NIB (not just some sale pitch) I decided not to shoot it. I have collected guns on and off for over forty years and know how much a NIB gun can mean to a collector. It has the manual, extra magazine, screw driver, extra sight and cleaning rod. Everything but the gun and little screw driver are wrapped in wax type paper inside sealed plastic bags. The gun is still in the wax paper and plastic bag but the bag is no longer sealed.

I did buy it as a CCW so I need to sell it in order to buy one and I was wondering if anyone would have any idea what it is worth. I have searched the gun for sale sites that I know of and can find very few Chinese models but defiantly no NIB. Any help would be appreciated.

I have some pictures but I haven’t figured exactly how to post them here. Thanks for your help.

now i am by no means an appraiser, so take my estimate with a grain of salt...

i see Chinese maks with all the accessories going for ~400.....so i honestly wouldnt expect much more than $450

honestly though, ide just keep the Mak..... carry it....shoot it...and enjoy it.

The early Chinene guns were imported with a chintzy adjustable rear sight, and there just are not very many of them.

Might take a a couple days to get a good estimate for you, but be patient. You might have an item someone would pay good $$ for.

Do you see an arsenal mark with a 56 , or 66 in a crcle or (super rare and unlikely) SHI?

Thanks for the info

I know absolutely nothing about the Makarov so any info helps. I checked and it does have a 56 but it is in a diamond. Thanks again

Have you looked up the info on makarov.com? It's not actively maintained anymore but there's still a ton of info there.

I thought I saw you post on gunboards too. Slim Tim and the other makarovniks there should be able to help.

two ways
One, you go advanced and attached (upload from your computer)
two you link you upload (copy the URL) and it will appear

OR
you post on a photo sight and link it with the little picture button above by coping in the URL of the photo.

Nice gun, and there are collectors that would want it. Try $500 on gunbroker. They get a lot of collectors looking on that for Maks.

Chinese Mak

Of the four nations that produced Maks, Russia, E. Germany, Bulgeria, and China, the Chinese version is the hardest to find.

I have already posted it on Gun Broker for $425 but if it doesn’t sell there I will try it here. Thanks for the info.

Dang if you were gonna sell it here, I may have offered to buy it. You know gunboards also has a for sale subforum.

I will definitely post it here if it doesn’t sell on the Gun Broker web sight. There seems to be a lot of watchers but no bids yet. The listing there ends Monday.

Makarov collector

So many of you guy’s on the forums kept telling me what a great gun it was I started having second thoughts about selling it. While I was checking out other Makarov auctions I found a Bulgarian Makarov with the holster, extra grips, extra magazine, lanyard and cleaning rod/tool all in un-issued condition, so I bought it and canceled the auction on the Chinese one. I started out just looking for a CCW and I think I now have turned into a Makarov collector. I sure hope you guys haven’t even lying to me because I now own two and haven’t even shot one yet. ha If I could figure out how to up load a picture to this forum I would let you tell me what you think of my Bulgarian one. By the way I paid $225 for the Chinese one. Thanks for all of the info.

The Bulgarian should be a sweet shooter. Your next Mak should be an East German. That's what I carry occasionally.

Then there are the Russian commercial and military versions, then the rarer variations and on and on.

Did anybody tell you Maks are addictive?

Shoot the Bulgarian, and keet the Chinese NIB. They have become collectors items. Or, if you don't care about losing a few buck on resale, just shoot the Chinese also. However, Makarovs all shoot the same. GREAT!

I have two Bulgarians, one East German and a Russian commercial in .380. They are fantastic pistols.

My next target will be a nice (shooter) German one but I need to sell my CZ DUO and CZ 52 first. ha
