Pretty exciting day! CMP 1911 showed up at the FFL and I'm thrilled with the quality. Another piece of history added to the collection. Will be a hoot to bring out the 1911 and the IHC M1 Garand on the same range trips. I have to run out for a flight tomorrow so I can't swing by the range and put a few rounds through it. Looking forward to shooting this pistol although just looking at it is making me thoroughly happy right now!

Cool. The pix looks like the pistol is in good condition. Enjoy your piece of history. If it could only talk.:)

I got my share of M1's and M1 Carbines and elected to let other folks go after the M1911s. It is good to hear that they are finally shipping them and, at least the early shipments, are in fairly good condition.

It is exciting. Enjoy your "new" M1911.

Unfortunately I’m already on another flight so I can’t post anymore pics but will take some more over the weekend. It’s a “service” grade which is the only grade available at this point. CMPs price for these is $1050. As we’ve covered in other posts, to some this is a crazy high price and others, like me, are thrilled to own this piece of history at that price. To each his own... It’s America and now I own one of the service sidearms that helped keep us free and able to own firearms like these.

This one is a Colt frame with a Remington-Rand slide. Serial number dates it at 1943 production. I haven’t spent too much time with it as we had obligations last night but a quick field strip revealed no surprises under the hood. It has a few dings and wear marks but is otherwise in great shape.

Still waiting for a # here.

Congratulations on a very nice service pistol. Heck, that's even a nice case.

Maybe the last time CMP offers those with the new congress. I surely hope not. I would like to have one.

The price is very reasonable for a 1911 in that condition from a collector standpoint.

Hmmm??? Colt Frame and Rem-Rand slide in unissued condition? How does one explain this beautiful piece? Train wreck of 1911 parts?
Uncle Sam losing his vision in 1942? Explosion at an armory?
If I could get one like this one I'd pay $1100 too!! Go figure!
