I know this has been covered, but I sure cant seem to track any of the threads dow, so soory, but here goes. I plan to order an M1 carbine from CMP this month. They say they will start accepting orders on April 28th for the one I want. There is a fairly limited quantity (compared to the Inlands and some others--they say they have like 1500 of the SG ones I want), I due to personal and family history, I REALLY, REALLY want to do all I can to increase the odds I get one before they sell out (might be worrying over nothing, but better safe than sorry, right?).

So, the quesstion is, do they just ignore (or put to the bottom of the pile or something) orders that come in say 1-2 days before they say they are accepting orders? Do they start with what arrives that morning/day and go from there? The 28th is a Monday, so is the best way to get mine near the head of the line to send it off on Saturday morning via UPS next day air, guarunteed 8 am delivery? Seems like thats the way to go to not be ahead of the "accepting orders" date, but as early as possible. Anybody know how they actually work it? Does my plan sound like the best route?

My dad (now deceased) was an engineer with General Motors, at the Saginaw Steering Gear plant, in Saginaw, MI for 30 years (wasnt there during WWII though, he was born a few years after the war ended, but still...).I grew up in Saginaw, and lived there 25 years, so all this just makes the gun extra neat and special since I want to get an M1 carbine anyways.

Thanks in advance.

When they say they will start accepting orders on the 28th, that's exactly what they mean, anything received before that gets kicked back to the post office.

Sending it next day on the prior Sat is the way to go.

Good luck!

From reading the at the CMP forum it would appear that if you send it in before the dead line it gets kicked out of the system. I would overnight it the day before.

If they say they will not process orders before April 28th, they will reject any orders received on the previous business day or earlier. If you send your order on Friday via Express Mail, it will get there on Saturday. CMP will accept the letter since they don't process orders on Saturday. Your order will be in the first pile which they will start processing on the 28th. At least, that is the way they processed previous orders.

If you want to be absolutely sure, send it FedEx or Express mail on Saturday. They don't go by any particular order in which received other than by day received.

Thanks all. that's basically what I figured, and is why I was gonna do the next day air, am delivery the saturday prior. I may call them about what EOD Guy said in regards to it arriving Sat. being ok as they dont process that day, so it wont get kicked back.Hadnt thought of that possibility. I will report back what they say on that for future people like me with questions.

I had taotally forgot CMP even HAD a forum.probly could have gotten my answer there just from searching around, so sorry for that guys.I would have just called CMP and not posted, but I figured others likely had the same type of question, and I sure cant dig up any old threads, so figured I 'd do t for posterity as it were.Plus, I'd rather hear from people with personal experiance, rather than whoever answeres the phone at CMP. Always a chance they give you a wrong answer for one reason or another. 5 people telling me pretty much the same thing gives me more confidence than 1 phone call.

The "Ask Orest" forum on odcmp.com is pretty good for these type of questions. If I was doing it "again". ( :) ) I'd send it Friday the 25th "Overnight Priority Mail" for delivery on the 26th. Even if the USPS screws up (it happens) it'll be there first thing Monday morning and you should be in good shape.

The key thing to remember is to not get too wound up while waiting . . and if you read the odcmp forums you can get pretty wound up wondering why you haven't received your email yet, etc. etc. Just my experience.

Have a good one,
Dave

Excellent advice, which, I'll f course be ignoring completely but not by choice) :D
I get pretty wound up waiting for ANY gun to Arrive, and this one being a fair bit ore special than most, it's gonna be ugly. Luckily, I have LOTS of blood pressure meds saved up, so the wait shouldn't ACTUALLY kill me, just make me a Little sick.:D:eek:

I was lucky my M1 only took lie 2 weeks when I got t from CMP last year.

Thanks for the forum and shipping advice also. That I actually WON'T ignore.;)

LOL . .I hear ya . .wore out a button on my mouse for the last CMP carbine clicking on the "Online Store' link. :)

Good luck!
