I've been shooting handguns for 6-7yrs and my primary carry is an XDm 9. My Taurus TCP .380, & S&W 442 pretty much fulfill my alternative carry options.
I have a Lancaster Arms AK 47 that is a blast to shoot, not über accurate, and basically I bought it without a lot of research, but as a Pre-Obama election purchase because I was relatively new to guns and wanted to exercise my right before it was possibly taken from me.
Since then, I got the Milsurp bug and bought a Mosin 91/30, an M44, and
most recently a service Grade M1 Garand. I love the milsurps for many reasons... history, the fun of cleaning and restoring, etc etc. and I expect that milsurps will continue to be a primary focus, but...
Now that that's out of the way, I want an AR. Why? Cause they're cool. The honest answer is... because I just want one.
OK, I've convinced myself that my AK is inferior for SHTF modern urban warfare and that the AR .223 round and flexible platform is a far better solution. Ok, now that I've totally convinced myself that I need an AR for the situations described above...
I'm mostly convinced that the Colt 6933 SBR is the best solution if I am only going to own one and only one AR. I think that most SHTF situations will occur in relatively close, urban ranges and I feel the 11.5" barrel is worth the BATFE tax, the 6 month wait, etc and will give up very little in longer range accuracy of minute of torso up to 100-200 yards.
I guess my only question is whether I could build a comparatively quality SBR for less money?
