That Remington Rolling block in 38 rimfire looks like a neat gun, anyway I can get an approximation of the bore, lot #1592
The Win Low wall in 25 WCF is a nice piece also #587

Brian, lot 1592 has a dark rough bore w/ distinct rifling still visible. Thanks for the interest! - Jim

Going to bump this one...:)

Everyone should check out this auction at www.armsbid.com

The Old Fuff can recommend this auction from personal experience. Plus they have an outstanding collection of S&W and Colt handguns as well as a lot of others - long guns included. If you can't find something you like you're not trying.

Nope, I looked once. Too tempting. Nope, nope, nope, not gonna look again.

How much you figure that cased Winchester Model 52 will go for?

Nope, nope, nope.

Where would I store it.

Nope, not gonna think about it.

John

I feel this is an inappropriate post (joke),as I live in the Republick of Kalifronia and we can't enjoy the freedom of purchaseing such fine guns that are not already in our state.
The ones that would attract my attention are not on the cadoj list so can not be imported here.
Oh by the way there are some very nice pieces there and I'm crying!!!

The picture for lot 48 appears to have been cross-threaded with lot 49.
here

Ok by me - I promised Fuff I wouldn't bid on Pythons.
Sure is a nice bunch of stuff there, though.

Would the Old Fuff stand between you and a classic Python???

NEVER!!!

After all opportunity only strikes... Well you know...

An a nice bunch of Singles Actions too... ;) So many to choose from...

Actually, I'm impressed by anything that would make me reconsider a lifetime-long promise to never buy or bid on anything I wouldn't shoot. Nothing, I thought, would ever coax me to consider the purchase of something I'd only display.

Check lot 233.

In my own defense, it wouldn't be a safe queen, it'd be a display piece - it'd have its own room.

But Pythons?
Not yet. Maybe not ever.

Check lot 233.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when bidding starts. That's an outstanding pistol, with an outstanding display.

I do so enjoy window shopping, and hopefully one of my bids will come through. But I've lost far more then I've won. On-site bidders can always edge me by $5.00 or so, but I still enjoy the auctions. Jim tends to offer a lot of fine firearms that aren't likely to show up in my local stores, especially when it come to interesting collectables or classics. Ya' never know what you might find... ;)

It would appear that I've saved some money (or at least not put myself at risk of spending some) by misunderstanding how it works.

Absentee bidding is the method of placing bids on auction items prior to the start of the auction. This allows buyers a method to bid on auction items when they are unable to attend the auction. Your bid will be used to place bids for items on your behalf even though you are not there.

Evidently, an auction shown as April 18 and 19 isn't two auctions in two days: it's one auction starting on April 18. Hence, all internet bidding is closed early April 18 even though product might be auctioned April 19.

Right?

Oh well, live and learn.
If nothing else, the CFO will be pleased.

I have some good news and bad...

You are right. The auction has started, and bidding is restricted to those made on-site or over a telephone. So far as Internet bidding is concerned the cut-off was April 16th, although a few might have got in during the morning of the 17th.

So much for bad news... :(

But on the other hand, later this year more auctions will be coming - and you have plenty of time to get ready. Do be warned that Jim's auctions are adictive...

Good news, bad news - more news: I belatedly discover the proxybid link. Fortunately my registration seems not to have taken.

I like your idea of just waiting for the next one.

So far as Internet bidding is concerned the cut-off was April 16th, although a few might have got in during the morning of the 17th.

I hope that's not correct. I was bidding up until 10:30 last night (the 17th) and the site said my bids were accepted. I doubt if I win anything, but I can hope.

In theory the 16th was the cut-off. In practice they'll take bids as long as they can. Apparently they accepted your late bid, which is great! I hope you win. ;)

Inless of course we're bidding on the same lot.

If someone is interested in a lot that will be auctioned on Sat. April 19th I'd say send in a bid - you have nothing to lose. Be understanding though if it doesn't get placed.

And do be first in line for the next auction... :)

My problem is that I found too many items that I wanted to bid on and didn't bid as high as I would have liked to on any of them. I should rethink that and pick one item and try to win that next time.:D

I always bid as high as I'm willing to go - and no more. If the bidding for the item should end at a lower price that's what I'll get the item for, plus one increment. On several occasions I have won something for less then my maximum bid, but on the other had I've lost when someone on-site raised my final bid by $5.00 or less. All this of course is part of the game.

While not much has been said, these auctions often include a lot of ordinary "user" shotguns and rifles, which the well heeled collectors ignore. There are some good buys there.

I also make a point of not getting too focused on guns alone, and look at books, accessories, collector ammunition and all kids of other things which are often overlooked by mainline collectors and Internet bidders.

Always remember that it is the perfect stuff that attracts the most money. Other items (particularly guns) with a few but fixable warts will go for much less and are still viable firearms for either collecting or shooting. I once got a supper deal on a revolver that was otherwise fine, but had a broken firing pin. The replacement cost me under $10.00 including shipping, and the repaired gun was worth at least $75.00 to $125.00 over what I paid, and is still going up.

Bad news (possibly) for your wallet, Fuff.

The proxybid application appears to work (I didn't actually bid). I did have to use internet explorer.
You can start off at armsbid or the "Proxybid Friday" link in Jim's original post.
Register, allow Java 5 to download if needed.
"Enter live webcast" - you're assigned a paddle number - that's just too cool for words.
Go to town.

There's a "view" option that doesn't require registration.

Unless I'm missing something you can bid "live" no problemo.

Edited to show screenshot. Pretty cool, this intrawebz.

Well, here's what I've learned. If you want something in one of these auctions, bid $50.00 to $100.00 more than the top end of the estimate. At least that's the way it turned out for me.:banghead:

Hawk:

I hate you!!! :cuss: HATE: :cuss: HATE: :cuss: :banghead:

After I read your post on how to bid using PROXYBID I tried to sign up... :)

So far so good... :)

Then I had to download some required software from JAVA... :uhoh:

Of course it didn't take after several hours of dial-up downloding... :banghead:

I HATE WINDOWS!!! :cuss:

I HATE JAVA!!!! :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

I claw at the monitor with bare fingernails and it doesn't do a bit of good.

Gun after guns slips away. I lose one when an on-site bidder goes $5.00 over my bid... :cuss: Tis' the story of my life... :uhoh:

I will git you I will ... :cuss:

But my wallet is safe... :D :D :D :D :D

Has anyone won anything yet? Everyhting that I wanted went for more than the estimates. I would be interested in knowing what lots you have won if you were lucky. I found a nickel Colt Cobra with the box that has had only half of a box of ammo run through it at a local shop this weekend for $495, so, I will probably pick that up to make myself feel better about missing out at the auction.
