Wreck-n-Crew, it is an add-on device.
Right. I thought it worked only on the newer versions of the prochrono Though. Looking at the way I worded the Question I guess it looks like I was asking if it was built in. lol. Long day I recon. Pain affecting the brain.

Gotcha, not harm, no foul. :)

I read through many reviews and haven't seen anyone say the older Pro Digital unit won't work with the Bluetooth. Don't know if that helps or not.

Ill dig a little more. Let you know if I find any thing. Thanks.

USB kit seems to work fine with Windows 10.
Had to do a quick fab of a chrono light kit from bits and pieces to test it in the dark.
(posted Free Chrono Light Kit)
Download the latest version of software from Competition Electronics.
PCRem_1.9.0.0
If you have 7zip you can open the download to see whats there without running it, otherwise just run it. If you extract first you can read the .pdf that is there before starting. My machine did not download the drivers from the web. I had to go to device manager and install them. Instructions are in the .pdf and should explain it ok even if you are not a computer person. I find it easier to get to device manager by right clicking the my computer icon and manage but you can get there thru control panel as well. In device manage you will see som ethings with check marks. (if your computer was happy before the only ones will be for the new usb dongle for the chrono) You will need to tell windows to look in the location you put the drivers.
they will be usualy C:\where ever you put the extracted file\PCRem_1.9.0.0\Drivers\Windows\CDM 2.04.06 WHQL Certified
Point window there and it is happy.

Reading is from a PBA pellet from my Gamo, at 5' in my dark back yard using my "Free chrono light kit" see thread.

More info to follow, but so far I am happy. The cord is a bit of a pain but I am much happier with the larger screen and a keyboard on my laptop.

(Moderators - I was going to edit the thread title to add the USB device but can't at this point in time. If you want to change the title or split the USB device off as a new thread feel free. I couldn't decide if I wanted to make it a new thread or not. Thanks again for all you do for us. DD)

I'm curious about whether the software can combine and output multiple strings in .csv format (I downloaded the software and extracted it, but the extracted file was a zip itself, and the process just repeated).

The only cumbersome part of the BlueTooth software is each string has to be individually saved / sent, and if you've got a lot of them...

I used 7zip and extracted the .exe from the downloaded file. The I used 7zip again to open the .exe and extact the stuff in it. Drivers folder, .pdf about the drivers from the dongle ffrom the people who made it, setup (software install) and a readme file.

I am getting ready for a range trip tomorrow so I will see what it can do. Just did a quick test with the pellet rifle.
I only used it once but I think you make have to export each string. :banghead: I will get a couple stings in it and see what happens when I export.
It should be possible to get all the stings in one export since the chrono is storing the data but I don't know if the software will do it. If it does not maybe they can add it to a future release.
I don't think the software does it but it would be nice to have a running log of the data written to a file.

It would be really interesting to have some info about what is being sent back and forth from the chrono. IE computer sends chrono XYZ for a string change. Need to see if there is someway to snoop the serial port while it is in use by the software. Got to think on this a this for a bit.

If you breakout & snoop the mini Y to USB, I'm curious what it's innards looks like (is it even using pin 1?). As the software is free, a mini Y cable is $1, maybe I'll save the $49 and build the adapter myself, or get lucky and find it's generic (they're $4.99).

Assuming that entering strings on the PC version HAS to be faster than the Bluetooth.

I need to get it installed so I can mess around with it.

Might not be faster than the bluetooth might be.
Clunky is the word that comes to mind.

I don't mean to sound negative it's just that it could be so much better.

Chrono talks to the dongle with a stero mini jack cable (signal/ground???) Dongle plugs into USB port.
Some goodies in the dongle I am sure. (see driver ,pdf in the software--extract it from the exe you get when you extract that from the zip you download)
(it might just be a USB to serial converter which you can buy for about $10 but then you need the 25' mini jack cable, the you would have to split that to the correct pins on the RS232, solder etc)

I am sure there has to be software to sniff the serial port just like you can sniff packets on the LAN interface just need to find it and play with it if/when I have time.
If CED was to release some info on how the communication happens someone might actually write some better software for the shooting community for free.
(possibly even donate it to CED for distribution with the chrono)

And NO it will not export multiple strings :cuss:
When you export it will export whatever string you are on.
Haven't played with the bluetooth app but I bet it is almost a straight port of the USB PC/MAC software. (which came first)

Some thoughts on the software
The software works but could have been designed a lot better IMO.
It could be great with some work as is it is just adequate. (still a big improvement over the pen and paper method)
Chrono will hold 9 strings with I think 99 shots a string.
You can export a string but each string must be exported separately. PITA
It would be really nice if you could just tell it to start logging and have it log to a file until you tell it to stop. (maybe a check box to turn this on or off, autoname the file with something like system date results ... ask for a default location to save it and remember that location)
For example when you click the string change button write that string to a file. (you would need to add a box for sting name on the screen just like they have for bullet weight.) (No export/desc/filename bla bla to save the data. It would also be nice if it pulled the vels as shot instead of having to tell it to get the vels. Along this line it would be nice if it kept running stats for the string instead of having to click to get the stats.
I don't mean to sound negative about it, it works as advertised, it's just with a few minor changes it would be so much more user friendly.
The software seems to be depending on the chrono to do the work  Smart chrono, dumb software ????
All the chrono needs to do is pass the data along....
Also when you have of list of vels on the screen you can highlight one and click delete shot but it does not delete that shot. I thing it just deletes the last (or first) shot in the string. (looked like rain so I wanted to get things done, need to double check which, I think last shot)
No way to report the data once exported.

Note to combine all the .csv files go to a command prompt C:> (or whatever drive letter) CD to the directory where they are located, C:> CD \reloading\chrono relsults (the folder/directory they are in)
copy *.csv outputfilename.csv
and bingo they are all combined.
I gave the export files all nice names like RMR 147gr Target HP 3.7 WSF OAL 1.10
no need, just put that in the comment. The files might as well be called, 1 ,2, 3, 4 etc if you are going to combine them.

Final verdict
All and all it is worth it if you do a lot of testing.
Maybe there will be some improvements made to the software down the road.
(one can always hope)
Would I buy it again, yes, would I recommend it, yes but I would point out the limitations to anyone thinking about it.

(Will read the manual again to see if I am missing something)

Yuk icky ES and SD but the load shot well.
Charges as thrown with Lee Pro disk on cold damp day, Wondering if they are worse variation wise than what I normally get when loading when it is warm and dry. (will need to check)

Oh well :banghead:

But thanks for reporting Dudedog!

The setup (ProChrono, Digital Link, software on tablet) as a whole is awesome, just a few improvements would really save some time!

1: Allow exporting multiple strings as one .csv
2: Simple enter-tab-enter string creation on a PC that can be dumped to the tablet, as finger pecking a touch screen kybd is less than my day's highlight.

A single string as .csv, opened with a spreadsheet:

1: Allow exporting multiple strings as one .csv
Yep do all 9 at a time at least if we can't log it to a file every string change.

Seems so simple
change string buton clicked
Do a get vels
do a compute stats
read value in "string name box added to the program"
write data to log file if logging is enabled.

Program exit
Close the file.

Wonder if it might be possible to convince them to release the source code
(most likely VB or C#, maybe C or Java)
with a grant of license for non commercial use.
Ok to modify and give away, not ok to modify and sell.

Will have to ask but guessing the answer will be no.
I will let everybody know their response.
(Need to write up suggested code changes and submit it to them)
Any other desires than multiple strings exported at one time, and or logging like I want.
Pulling the data into the program and being able to delete the shot of choice from a string would be nice.

Don't know about other Android tabs but the cheapo I bought that did not work with the wireless setup had a keyboard. (one of the reasons I picked it) I checked and seemed to find some that might work for <$15 on Amazon but have never tried them.

Maybe I'll take a break from my 10mm project this weekend and teach myself to code apps :)

Good new!
New improved software is in the works.
I received this reply.
Hello,

Thank you for the comments. We are actually in the process of creating a new desktop app for the USB connection. I believe most of your ideas will be addressed.

most of the thoughts you mentioned are covered with our Digital Link product
http://www.competitionelectronics.com/product/bluetooth-adapter/

- you can create as many shot lists as you desire on a mobile device and when one is opened it will receive any shot data real time as it is registered by the chronograph
- you can export all shot lists or select which ones you want to export individually in one operation
- you can delete individual shots from the shot list and the stats are recalculated automatically

We do offer a chronograph protocol document for developers but not the source code. See attached.

That is GOOD news :)

I did manage to get the 'kit' software installed, and it seems like a giant step backwards from the Digital Link Bluetooth app.

I have the info on what the chrono is sending out  from them. (Word Doc)
PM me if your interested and I will send it to you.
I my younger days I might have hidden in my room with mass amounts of Mtn Dew and chips etc, and beat on it till I had come up with a piece of software, now days I would rather be shooting and reloading so I will wait and see what they come up with first. :)

I'm trying a bit of a different route - Installed an Android emulator on a Windows 10 laptop. I've got the Digital Link app installed, just need to enter some strings and find what format they're stored in.

:)

I did not read all the post

But what is it you want to know about the digital link I have been using it for some time now.

We are haxors, all your base are belong to us!

We're just tinkering with compatibility, and trying to find efficiencies (that may be part of an upcoming app release).
