Thanks guys! I guess what I meant was I want one but I have a hard time spending money for some reason. Money isnt a problem, I just dont like spending it. I dont NEED one, but it would be awesome to have!

Your reasons are slowly eliminating guilt one by one! Keep em coming.

Of 4 357 Mags

Allways buy what you like.

I like my Colt Trooper MKIII 6"BBL
Ruger RedHawk 5.5" BBL
Ruger Speed Six 2.75" BBL
Ruger Security Six 2.75" BBL

They all like the Win 180gr Black Talon

I carry a Colt Comander in 45 ACP for the nasty ones.
The 357s are for hunting & the
short BBls are for Wildlife Photography
Just in case :0)

...because this morning I shot a 5-shot group out of My 3" Sp 101, that you could cover with a quarter @ 30 ft ... (I cannot produce accuracy like this out of any of my other handguns.) This gun is a keeper! Get one!

Funny you should mention it???

I just drove Upstate 2 hours today (each way) to buy a .357 SP101. It has the short barrel+factory bobbed hammer. Did not realize until I had it in my hands that it was DAO??
I'll try it double action only for awhile, but may be in the market for a hammer+parts??
What would I need besides the hammer to make it Single action/double action?? Any PM to me on this repair would be appreciated greatly..Bill.:)

It'll go blam 5 times for you

Every time. For the rest of your life, and then for your granddaughter after you leave it to her.

billybob - that's not a repair, it's a modification. :D If you want to put a hammer with a spur on it, you'll need to make sure it has the correct single action notch, and that it is fitted to the gun. There may be another part in the gun that is modified to make it DAO, but I can't remember.

I wouldn't worry about it. DAO makes you shoot a defensive revolver the right way for shooting it in a crisis.

I want one, but I need some convincing

go
No, if you buy one, that is one less for ME to buy, or at least may drive up the price, making those I try to buy more expensive. I have several, but could use one more .357 with a 3.06" barrel, because I like matched pairs, plus I am always looking for one of the discontinued .22 LRs, or, actually, I guess two of them, to make a pair.

The SP101 factory grip is absolutely perfect for MY hands, but I am sure your hands are different, so you should not buy an SP101.

A .38 or .357 SP101 hold only five rounds in the cylinder. That could get you killed in a gunfight. Don't buy an SP101. I carry two or three of them at a time, or carry an SP101 plus a bigger gun, because I am strange like that. Don't be strange!

The SP101 is ridiculously heavy, being made of stainless steel, which is SO 20th Century. Compact guns of the 21st should be made of polymer and unobtanium.

Nope; don't buy an SP101. All for me, and none for you!

Ruger specifies that the hammer is a part that should be factory-fitted. Ruger can do this for you, but I doubt it will be free. It might be easier and less expensive to trade for one with a standard hammer.

I am a believer in DAO for most snubby purposes, and three of my SP101s are DAO. (I converted my 3.06" SP101 with a DAO hammer I bought through evil-bay back when they still allowed such parts to be listed.*) One of my SP101 snubbies has a spurred hammer, so I can wear it in a shoulder holster that has thumb-break retention, and my 4" .32 H&R SP101 has a spur, because it came that way, and it is a specialized gun, not a carry gun.

*Going from a spurred hammer to DAO hammer seems to have worked for me, without fitting, at least this time. It seems logical that going the other way would require fitting, as the single-action engagement surfaces MUST be set just right.

The SP-101 is one hell of a fine handgun. It's big enough and small enough and it's got enough power to drop a black bear if needed. It will work fine with anything that fits the chamber from mild .38's for practice up to full-power loads that will rattle your teeth.

I don't see why anyone wouldn't want such a firearm.

Where can I buy those grips?

The are Badger boot grips. You can order them directly from the maker, Jim Badger, at Badger Custom Grips. His work is nothing short of top notch......His boot grip is designed for a concealed grip and does it wonderfully. If you've never held a similarly styled grip, they feel funny at first because you "loose" you pinky. It will basically wrap around under the grip and form a cradle for the grip to rest in. (If that makes any sense). I find I can shoot as well with my SP wearing those grips as I can most of my full sized guns.

Right now, I'm on the hunt for a used 3" SP to fully polish and put a set of Badgers regular grips on. They have the extra joint at the bottom for your pinky.

It is a good practical size of gun. It is large and heavy-duty enough to take a steady diet of 357 Magnum ammo. (even if your hand can't)

It is just big enough to get a full grip on.

It is pretty accurate too.

This was at 7 yards with the laser grip. It will also shoot as well at 25 yards as a gun with a much longer barrel.

Here are a few shots of my 3" 357:

It is very powerful too:

Speaking of SP 101's, I just picked up a slightly used one in .357 for $435 in a 3" barrel. It is a very soft shooter compared to my old Taurus 85 snubbie and my old Ruger LCR. I just shot 50 rounds with it. The PMC ammo shoots 2" low. But the Hornady Defense ammo shoots point of aim. Very nice gun. This looks like a keeper!
