You are lucky to have an understanding and supportive wife. When we were newly marries, it took me 2 months of argument and persuasion before I got my first gun. 17 years later she always encourage my 13 year girl to go shooting with me, has felt safer with me carrying and haas allowed me to buy 2 gunsafes for my toys.

You are a lucky man (as am I).
I can empathize on the back issues (three surgeries in seven years) and while I used to carry a 1911, these days I am back to pocket carrying the Kahr PM9 I bought back in late '05/early '06.

Sold the LC9 because it stung while shooting it. The Sig P938 does not. Shoots like a dream for a 9mm. Has night sights and a lifetime warranty. Not to mention it is all metal. It has some things going for it as well.
