so i'm watching the COPS marathon, there was like two different channels running them, forget which one i was tuned in to... was a collection of 'shots fired' footage.

one had to be from several years back, as there was no less-lethal options available. some guy was walking down a highway with a butcher knife to his own neck. couple uniforms tried to stop him, weapons drawn, but he kept walking along.

what surprised me was that the officers were getting very close to the guy, under 10 feet away and he just kept walking, walking walking. before long there was about 2 dozen cops on scene, one tried using an asp to knock the knife out of his hand (okay, so there was one less-lethal option used), but it failed, and after the suicidal thug lunged at approaching officers twice, the police wound up getting him cornered between a car and the short fence along the highway.

lots of poor muzzle control as 20+ cops had guns drawn on a guy, there would have been plenty of crossfire had all of them shot, but only one officer discharged his weapon, looked almost like it was muzzle contact in the torso.

i guess i've watched too many movies cause i was expecting lots of blood, but there was barely a trickle. he survived.

another one was a high speed pursuit, driver bails and takes off on foot, officer chasing rounds a corner, you hear "police! freeze! drop the gun!" and then one shot fired. camera crew catches up, looks about 15 feet distance, shot in the leg. wondering if that was intentional or a huge flinch. not saying i could have done better.

I know the bit you're talking about with the guy walking over the bridge. A good old M1 hickory attitude wrench might well have done what the ASP didn't. A 36" Monadnock polycarb riot stick could have been used to either take away the knife or put a leg out of commission. A TASER would have really been handy in that one.

And there is also a lesson in that clip that a handgun is NOT the magic sword Excaliber. Now if the cop had emptied the magazine, that might have been a different story. There was a case here in Albuquerque where a Deputy Sheriff shot a BG ELEVEN TIMES in the torso and it still took 2 people to get the BG in cuffs. FWIW, the gun was a Glock .40 loaded with Fed. Hydra-Shok. BCSO changed ammo soon after that to Win. SXTs.

Couple APD buddies of mine were looking for someone, to serve a warrant. Went into his used car lot, walking toward the trailer serving as office. As they walked past one of the cars they heard a growl. 150 pounds of peeved Rottweiler launched itself after them.

The chase was on. Both officers promptly retreated at high speed, but rover was gaining. They both drew their trusty .45s and commenced to blasting. The pooch stopped chasing them when they exited the lot, not because it took three hits, one in the shoulder, one in the back, and one that bounced off the skull.

The dog was ok.

Youy havent lived till....

till you find out that your new wifes eldest daughter has been on COPS not once but TWICE! as a subject. The first time my eldest step-daughter appeared was when she was in her teens.I havent seen this episode and we are still looking for a copy of this episode. The second time was in the last few yrs in a segment filmed in North Las Vegas. We have a copy of this and play it for visiting realitives and freinds when the mood strikes. We felt it was when really ironic when COPS started using this segment in the opening previews showing the officers pulling a loaded P95 out of wannabe boyfriends pants.I told my wife I didnt like that kid when I met him,but what can you do with a 21 yr old step-daughter?Homeboy got taken away to the tender mercies of the NLVs jailers but my daughter was let go on both occasions she came into the spotlite.Since this happened my beloved stepdaughter has made a total 180 and left her dissolute lifestyle behind. My wife and I are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new grandchild anyday now.Maybe my daughter seeing herself on the boobtube along with a parade of losers gave her a visual she really didnt like.My wife and I are eternally greatful that our girl woke up and became a survivor and not a victim. It could have easily gone the other way...

I remember that one (the guy walking down the highway with the knife). Too bad they didn't have any Tasers.

The one I remember most was a home invasion. It starts out with a panicked woman on the phone with a 911 dispatcher saying that there are people trying to break into her house. The dispatcher sends the cop (COPS crew are with him) to the house. The cop pulls up and there's a guy laying on the front lawn with a gunshot wound to his butt and the cop handcuffs him because he was one of the home invaders. Then the cop goes into the house and talks with the two women living there and they tell him that two men came in through a bedroom window. He goes to the bedroom and you can see that a shotgun blast hit the wall above the window (birdshot). The camera then pans over the bed and to the left wall and the second home invader is slumped against the wall, deceased, blood <i>everywhere</i>. Blood on the bed, blood smeared on the wall where the guy slid down it, his clothes are soaked in it, blood on the floor, blood splattered on the window, etc. It looks like he came in, was immediately fired upon and hit in the torso, scrambled to get away but tripped over the bed then hit the wall and fell right there and bled out.

It was pretty grisly. Apparently, right before the woman called 911, she called a friend who lived near her and he brought his shotgun. I'm not sure exactly on that part, but he sure put a world of hurt on the two invaders.

Ever notice that 9 out 10 people they arrest on COPS are not wearing a shirt??What gives? Is there a connection between shirtlessness and crime?Where are THESE govenment studies???Me,I always wear a shirt just in case. ;)

Took me a while to figure out where the term "wife-beater" in reference to a sleeveless undershirt came from.

"9 out 10 people they arrest on COPS are not wearing a shirt??"

I cannot answer that question in general, but when the fiancee lived in Baltimore City (Hampden specifically) there seemed to be a rule that if the temp got above 75 every adult male over 14 had to immediately whip off his shirt and go barechested. Needless to day the pyhsique of some of these gentlemen made the wiseness of this move questionable.

I have yet to see the equivalent in Alabama but since its January the temp barely gets above 60 :) (smiley for the Northerners!)

60? Heck, that shorts and Tevas weather here in Colorado. :D

I've seen that home invasion episode a few times. I think that segment should be required viewing in all Jr. High Civics/Social Studies class, as part of the unit on the 2nd Amendment. Even in States and Cities that ban firearms, the shooter may go to prison :banghead: but the home invading goblin can still end up as worm food.

I love the episode where the policewoman holds up a hollowpoint and says "see these, these are designed to cut through a bulletproof vest"

Yes, the men always seem to find themselves without a shirt and they certainly have this proclivity to stand and point at things.

The women seem to generally be barefoot and they all seem to wear the same purple oversized t-shirt featuring a picture of a teddy bear with the words "Hug Me" on the front of it. Oh yes, and they tend to find themselves standing and pointing at something as well.

Too bad we don’t have Smell-O-Vision.

When I watch COPS I find myself thinking about soap and hot water.

That reminds me; I need to go get some Lysol.

Guns don't kill people; shirtless people kill people.

Ban shirtless people!
