I'm looking at an old Ruger revolver marked ABC 026 on the left side of the frame. It looks like an agency mark for LE. I know it's a tall order, but does anyone have a clue which?

What model?

I think the 2 gents above have good points. To narrow it down, if you’re interested, one would need to know the model to do a proper search.

I’d pen a letter to Rugers customer service, they should know. Most likely, if involving LE it was a contract gun.

It's a common Ruger Speed Six GS-82( stainless , standard 2.75" barrel 38 spl). Not a 3" as the special contract Speed Sixes I'm aware of are. Probably approved as a service revolver by some small dept.

There were a lot of big agencies that used std barrel length Speed Sixes. NYPD and Border Patrol just to name two.

I meant standard barrel vs heavy barrel not length. I was also talking about short barreled Speed Sixes( I should have made that clear). My GS-83 NYCPD Speed Six is 3" heavy barrel as is the USPS. I believe Gordon may be correct ABC=alcohol beverage control. Agents are LE, make arrests and are armed(at least in Arkansas).

____ Bureau of Corrections or something similar or possibly a parole office in a small agency. Ask the seller where they got it. A lot of law enforcement trade ins these days for modern tupperware semi-autos. But that revolver is just as good and effective for its use as ever!!!

PS: A lot of LEO retirees have the chance of buying their handgun when they retire in a lot of parts of the country. Let us know if you find out. It could have a cool past!
