Right, I've been talking about American firearms laws with a friend of mine. He's kind of a stoner, and I've been trying to give him the facts, or at least what I know.

Now, he's told me something I'm not sure if it's true or not. I'd like someone here to confirm, deny or clarify his statement.

In Texas, is it really mandatory to have a gun in your house?

There is a remote possibility some strange town has an ordinance (sp?) requiring every household to be armed or some such, but it is not enforced.

ya see, what they gots in ther' Texas is the Gun Police... if ya's don't have a gun, then you get arrested. It's really the only way to be safe.

It all started back in the 60's when the hippies moved in. They started their protestin' 'cause they wanted to be safer. They didn't think enough people owned guns. well as they got older, they began to get in control, and all of a sudden changed the constitution of Texas to REQUIRE ever household to excerces their RKBA. It was and still is the biggest rights violation in America.

Such a shame.

Kennesaw, Georgia and Bowerbank, Maine also have/had ordinances that require most homeowners to have firearms to protect themselves and their property. Kennesaw has been called America's safest city because of its very low crime rate.
 
Maybe good for non-felons and those who appreciate guns, but how can the state of Texas tell a felon to arm him or herself with a gun? What if the homeowner, or entire family for that matter, is hoplophobic? ..... Though that would be the smartest dumb law of all time.
 
Like mentioned earlier there are communities that require households have at least one firearm.

However, they do not force conscientious objectors. Insane, felons
and others not allowed by federal or stare law are also exempted.
 
G36, mandatory firearms ownership was common in colonial times where firearms ownership was as it was in England, a duty. In Massachusetts and Virginia immigrants would bring their weapons to church for inspection by deacons, church elders, etc.

Modern firearms ownership laws are a political response to the anti-civil rights movement. Such laws are usually unenforced town or village ordinances (fines only).

Texas is a large state that gets much media coverage because of the horse operas from the 1950s. Even though Texas has much more restrictive laws than many states, its media image is such that many believe that you can strap on a hawglaig and mosey on down the dusty streets in elf boots (just like television!:D). Texan gun controls started as slave/Mexican control prior to 1865 and then became Jim Crow laws as free Blacks started to be able to afford firearms as Reconstruction started to end in the election deal of 1877.

There is no such statute.
 
IIRC, Kennesaw, GA, enacted such an ordinance in reply to Morton Grove, IL, 's ban on handguns. I don't know if it's still in effect or not.

As for Texas, there are some out-of-the-way towns that wouldn't need to pass such an ordinance, it's just the way it is. :D

Two varieties:

1. Stoner, Eugene: Firearm designer, most famous for his work on the original AR-15, while he worked for the Armalite division of Fairchild. The AR-15 was adopted by the US. Military as the M-16.

2. Stoner…eerr, what was the question? Oh wow, did someone say something?

Of course, "stoners" have largely been replaced by tweakers and meth heads and powder heads who aren't nearly as laid back as stoners.

Drugs that keep you awake for 17 days and nights in a row tend to not mellow you out very well...........

Georgia has a law that requires that.

Somthing to the effect of "every house hould must have at least one firearm unless it against their religion" I read that recently, forget were.
 
Of course there is no such law.

All Texans know you have to have guns, we don't need any stupid laws like that.

Although with all the GDY's moving in, maybe we should think about passing one.

it is highly advisable. It is also advisable to get a concealed carry license too........otherwise, how are you going to protect yourself? chris3
 
I live in Kennesaw, GA. There is a local ordnance requiring every head-of-household to have a firearm and ammunition, but it is not enforced. It was enacted as a protest during a period of high anti-gun legislation.

Even though it's not enforced, lots of people know about it, and we have very, very little violent crime. :D
