Coyote warning for pet owners; are you carrying?

Cats have been on the menu around here lately. Several gone missing in the neighborhood with yote activity way up. I see a connection.

We don't have any pets, but we do have a 3 year old and 8 year old. They do not go outside without us and I'm typically carrying.

I live in Parker, CO, a suburb of Denver, and we've got the damn things everywhere too. Having a large creek w/drainage area/greenbelt running through the area doesn't help. Our backyard is fenced, but I still worry about our Beagles. I'm always wearing my .45, but I'm not always home.

I live in Denver (Evans/I-25) and saw my first coyote just a few weeks ago running down my street. I told my neighbor who ownes a small poodle, and she said she has seen it a few times and never lets her dog out alone.

I have a wolf/malmute who spends a fair amount of time outside alone, but he does not understand that other animals might be out to hurt him. He would more than likely try to play with it before being gobbled up.

Mace should make a coyote run, but I usually CCW (9 mm) when walking the dog.

From what I understand, geniuses in our area decided to reintroduce coyotes in order to help control the deer population (guess extending the deer season/upping the limit was too simple?).
Now they've gotten to be such a pest for farmers/ranchers etc that there's a $50? bounty on 'em.
