I have a Rossi 92 chambered in 454 Casull. To date she (Miljoner) has around 50 rounds of 45 colt cowboy loads and 5 rounds of full power 454 loads threw her. After changing the sights to a Skinner peep and cleaning up the action I noticed a crack in the stock. The crack in located under the tang runs about 1.5" in length. If one looks at the attached picture it gives a better idea of what I am talking about. The wood is too this to drill and glue so I was thinking about flexing the wood ever so slightly so I can drip the glue in it then clamp it for a day or two. If anyone has any experience with a repair like this you advice is greatly welcome. Also what type of glue would be best used (I was thinking about Titebond III since its waterproof and I have it on hand). Thanks in advance.

Thin CA glue such as Hot Stuff will suck down in the crack to the very bottom and cure instantly.

However, a more pressing matter is, why did it crack in the first place?

Look for bedding issues where hard metal to wood fit is wedging the stock apart.
Either during normal assembly, or during recoil.

The sides of the tangs, and especially the rear of the tangs are the usual suspects.
When you find it, remove enough wood with a sharp wood chisel, scraper, or Dremel tool to relieve it.

Forget the Titebond and get an Acraglas kit from Brownells. It is formulated for best bond to wood. Spread the crack as you described, inject the epoxy then clamp.

The crack appears to start where there is no metal to wood bedding (underneath the top tang). My initial thought was that the tang was tightened too much and caused the crack in that location. Also the wood is very thin (almost as this as a pencil point on the edge) where the crack is leading me think it might be more cosmetic then structural.

I have a soft spot for this rifle and want to refinish the stock after the repair but I don't want to do too much work until I know exactly whats the cause of the crack.

Thanks for the glue recommendations and advice.

Stock needs refitting too. I suspect that's why it cracked to begin with.

That crack location is typical of Winchester type pumps & lever-action stocks.

Sometimes it is caused by too tight inletting.
But that was very rare on older Winchesters.

A more likely cause is?
Somebody bent it the wrong way by setting on it in a car seat or something!! :what:

I had the same crack on my Braztech Rossi M92. I carefully spread the "ears" of the stock until I could see daylight through the opening of the crack, then used a syringe and needle used for basting meat, to apply glue to the crack.

I cut the original basting needle off at the lateral orifice and flattened the opening in the needle. That gave me a thin ribbon once the syringe was loaded with glue.

I then carefully pried open the crack with a wooden wedge, and applied the glue into the crack from the top and waited until it oozed from the bottom, then wrapped the wrist of the stock with surgical rubber tubing. The stock is as good as one piece now.

Make sure the tang on your M92 isn't acting as a wedge and splitting the stock, if it is you can remove wood to keep it from happening again.

Modern made or not, the old 92 was not really intended for the recoil of something like the .454, so it is not surprising that stocks crack. In addition to the glue recommended above, I think I would install a stock pin with glue or Acraglas.

I found some Locktite liquid Super Glue that is watery thin. It sets in a matter of seconds (don't ask me how I know), is very strong, and inexpensive. You can find it at Lowe's.
