A female came in dressed in a skirt and stilleto heels first she cut in line to get a lane. Then she gets in a lane and it's feezing cold she takes off her jacket to her sleeveless top to shoot and she shoots leaned forward bent over the counter not hitting anything. ( I didn't get to see this my wife told me) Then when she did hit something it was the bar holding the target knocking it down. Two lanes from me a guy and his wife had two brand new guns a S&W snubbie and a Taurus 101SS 9MM. She shoots the thing and it kills her hand so she turns it around and looks in the barrel!! :what:

Reminds me of what happened once at the range....A young couple shows up to shoot...The guy was shooting an auto pistol, and his girlfriend was watching. She had a low-cut top on and a was showing some nice cleavage... ;) Well, when it was her turn to shoot, one of the hot cases went right down her top. She pulled it away real quick to get the case out and the guys that were watching got entertained. It's also amazing to see where there is damage around the range from stray rounds. Like torn carpeting on the floor, or holes in the ceiling tiles behind the lanes, or dents in the walls separating the lanes.

This is why you're venting your frustration at this woman's actions and not copying her phone number from a piece of scrap paper into your permanent file. ;) You should invite a single buddy to come with you next time in case she comes back! QT opportunity if I ever saw one.

When things look like that at the range I'll pick up my gear and leave. If someone splatters brains all over, I don't want to spend three or four hours giving statements to the police, insurance investegators, and news people. Best for me to leave.

A year or so ago my son and I were at a local public range when a car with about 5 "gangsters" pulled up with a 12 ga mossberg with a pistol grip still in the box. One of them walked down range and put up a box about 3 ft square and loaded the 12 ga and shot and missed it by a mile then he stood there and looked at the gun like it had done something wrong. The gun was passed from one to the other with simular results. Then the largest guy fugured out that you might need to aim with it to hit the box. So he takes the gun holds it about 2 inches in front of his face and gets a good sight picture and pulls the trigger. Well he hit the box but the butt of the gun caught him in the face, blood everywhere, most likley broke his nose. Now its back to the car and down the road, bet the gun went back to the place they bought it with the complaint the it won't hit where you point it like in the movies. After we got thru wiping the tears out of our eyes from laughing we went back to shooting. rugerman

Rugerman,

Well that makes me feel a little more confident about my chances should I ever be forced into a shootout with the "homeez." :)

It is just situations like these that make me feel an RO should be there and watching everyone ... pity for us responsible types but - it might at least catch the dipsticks before they shoot themselves or someone else.

I am so, so lucky, not having to shoot at these large ''public'' type ranges ... because it seems that almost with monotonous regularity, the braindead brigade come in and shoot. They give us a really bad name and should be banned from range attendance.

It is perhaps all but remarkable, that more deaths and injuries do not occur ... thank heaven for that!

MY GOD I hope this story is true in its entirety!! LOL :D
That's too much. Hopefully, they never did get edumacated about how to use their new bang stick. Buncha wannabe hardcases. Keep watching the papers; probably one of them will catch an A.D. in the face!

The most irresponsible thing I ever did at a range was shoot a nice group in the 20 yard target of the fellow next to me. He couldn't hit what he was aiming at so I took the liberty when he was doing something else. :)

Hey Gordy I've done the same thing several times, at the local public range there are always a bunch of college guys who can't shoot trying to impress the lady friends shooting their Ar15's at 25 yards and fast as they can pull the trigger and not hitting a thing. So being the helpful guy that I am I'll put a few 22's in the center so he looks good to his girl friend, I once shot a smiley face (really a frowney face) on one guys target. rugerman

Yes Peaceful Jeffery this is a true story. The best thing about going to a public range is watching the idiots, but it can be dangerous. Once I had gone down range to put up a target at 100 yards and some idiot pulls out a 22 pistol and starts shooting down range, I hit the ground pulled out my 44mag and was taking up the slack when a buddy of mine knocked the hell out of him and ran him off the range, in 1 more second I guess I'd a had to mount the jackass and hang him on my wall. rugerman

Had sort of the opposite happen to me recently. I was at a local indoor range with a buddy. He had the lane to my right, and to my left was a young LEO and his girlfriend. When I had emptied the cylinder of my GP100 at the target, my buddy walked over and asked me to count the holes. There were seven. I set my gun down and backed away, looking to my left just in time to see the dear boy nail his target hangar.

Right about then the RO asked the two to come to the front. They left shortly after, girlfriend looking disgusted and not too impressed...

I need to go to your range! :)

So you're going to cut and run, when you could try to put a stop to the situation, possibly saving someone from harm? Guess if we won't police our own, then we'll have to have the guv-mint do it for us.

I'll often use political campaign signs as "quick & easy" targets. Nothing against any of the candidates (i staple real targets over the signs), but those little slip-on cardboard signs and the easy-to-set wire frames are up in a second & down in a sacond; no real set-up time.

That said, it's not too unusual for my son or me to "clip" the wire frame, especially when firing a new handgun, or doing from the leather drills at 25 yards. :uhoh: Well, they ARE pretty small (not much larger than the target paper)! :scrutiny: The other advantage of these target holders: they're FREE! :D I actually feel like I'm performing public service by removing them (after the election, of course).

But, considering the comments about folks who shoot their target hangers, guess none of y'all would want to shoot with me. :(

When I was at CCA for the December meetup, I noticed there's a not-so-neat .22 caliber bullet hole in the top of the stand of lane #4.

I must admit that I did shoot the ceiling once, a long time ago :) My only modern ND, I twitched after a shot and it was enough to snick the disconnector back in place and release the sear. Bang.

I dunno I've been bothered by some pretty nasty ROs before. I pulled up back when I still had my VW, he noted the little rainbow sticker on my ammo can. (Now it has hello kitty) and put two togather. I set the target out at 100 yards, while he was advising me I should move it closer. He suggested 15 yards...

I informed him I'd been shooting here before and that I was thankful for the help but politely suggested the two ladies a few booths over trying to figure out how to drop the magazine on their beretta may need some help. Ohno, I got my own personal backseat shooter while he tried giving me all this jazz. Nomatter I was pushing sub 1" groups. The ladies actually had to track him down and ARGUE with him. When I noticed he was gone I looked back to hear.."Booth number nine keep your eyes on the target." I was livid....and shortly thereafter left.

I saw a gentleman show up with ALL the toys. Several expensive handguns, with laser sights, weapons lights, etc. He had a super nice shooting box that held everything neatly (including his spotting scope). he had the gloves, the aftermarket boxes for his ammunition (no word on whether he was reloading or not though), and he couldn't hit the target to save his life, even at seven yards.

I guess he started out, and bought intot he idea that he would instantly get good if he just got that extra gizmo.

It's interesting how us youth can be safer than our 'elders'. I'm 20, and I've been going to this local indoor range (I occasionally take a few of my friends from college, and really stress safety).

Well, one time I went by myself shooting my new HK P2000, maybe my HK USP Tactical too (not sure). I was putting my gear away, and so was the guy next to me [about 2-3 feet away] (I'm guessing early to mid 30s). I think he had markov, or something of simular style. Anyway, guy was putting into his bag, and 'Bang!'. The guy shot the counter, turned ghost white, and grabed his crap and made haste out of the lanes.

Thank god no one got hurt, but I didn't really realize how bad the situation could have been until I was driving home about 10 mins later. Thoughts going through my mind... Man if his angle had been different I could have been hit. :cuss:

OrvilleYertleson,
Yeah, I see a lot of that in many of the sports I do. In mountain biking, for instance, when a guy pulls up in a very expensive luxury car with a high-end bike rack and a brand new, shiny, clean, high-end mountain bike, he usually can't ride it worth a damn.

The guys and women I respect are the ones who show up in a battered old pick-up with a well-worn bike--the bike's gotten that way because they've ridden the daylights out of it, and they know HOW to ride it!

Being able to out-perform your equipment is the mark of skill and experience. Being much worse than your equipment indicates something else...it has a certain "spoiled brat" quality to it.

And I've gotten somewhat distrustful of shooters who show up with new guns still in the box. Particularly--and I hate to say it--Glocks (I'm a Glock shooter and carrier, and so I can say that.) Clean, new Glock tupperware box usually = brand-new shooter. If they act friendly, I'll help 'em out.

I had a RO who made me a much better shooter. It happened at an open house held by a local range, with about 15 manufacturers in attendance and free rentals, so the place was packed. To help crowd control, some of the manufacturer brought in temporary ROs. I had my CZ75B and a Glock 34 rental, and on that particular day I was shooting as well as I ever have in my life, punching holes through the ten ring at 7 yards so steadily that I had to move the target to 10 yards, and still nailed it time after time. This one RO, a CZ rep with an Eastern European accent, came over, gave me a few pointers, and I was shooting even better. Then he let me try his gun, a highly modified CZ85 with an extended barrel and a trigger job that can only be described as sublime. It had modifications I'd never seen before. The gun was incredible. I ran three magazines through it at ten yards and the only bullet that missed the nine ring was when I had a double tap because of not being used to the light trigger pull (but even that went through the seven ring). The guy's advice made me a much better target shooter.

Right now the people running my local range are great (Bill's in Robinsdale, MN). The place has made a 100 percent turn around since it's been under new management.
