I am tired of conspiracy theories. There is no conspiracy to take our guns. There is a great deal of overt political action around the country to enact either some or a great deal of new gun control legislation, something a lot of people have wanted to do for a very long time. That doesn't make it a conspiracy. And yes indeed, if inacted, some of that legislation would in fact have the effect of taking away some guns presumably...worst case, maybe a lot of guns...or their magazines. Still not a conspiracy.
All conspiracy theories (which are often more interesting in and of themselves than the supposed acts of the conspirators) have some common properties. The one that makes them all "work" is the myth of hyper-competence...hyper-competent covert groups. Groups, agencies, or other organizations (Mafias, CIAs, Skull and Bones, Tripartite, Bilderberg, Templars, etc) that are so competent, so tuned into government, so able to control the environment in which they operate, so able to do so without a trace, that they are able to get away with anything.
This of course is where they all fail. Sure, there are some pretty compentent groups out there (Mossad, CIA, SEALs, frankly the old Cosa Nostra) that can pull off some pretty amazing things. But look at what they really have to overcome.
The whole Bin Laden thing. Yes, that was a brilliant, well planned, well executed covert military operation, carried out by a very (if not hyper) competent organization(s). But look at the thing critically. Well they crashed their helicopter. But since they had a good plan B, they dealt with it well. They landed in the wrong place (outside instead of inside) but again, they had a plan B...brought a ladder I suppose. Stealthy? Well they did pretty well. Nobody saw them coming that's for sure...that was 100%. But the whole raid itself after the was apparent to everybody within a huge radius. Thank goodness this was in Pakistan and not Israel or Britain or Sweden or France. So here's a case where the best America has to offer did one hell of a bang-up job and got the bum. Bravo USN!!! But it does sort of debunk the myth of hyper competence. A lot did go wrong, it wasn't secret very long, and they pulled it off by the hair of their chins. Again Bravo USN!!!
To pull off the sorts of conspiracies that people talk about would require orders of magnitude greater competence than was available to the people who got Bin Ladin.
So yes, I sick of all the gun-grabbing conspiracies.
