Hey all. Well, I just pulled the trigger on a new CZ 452 American .22 from Budsgunshop. I considered the group buy that our moderator corriea has coming up, but I haven't heard back on when this will take place, and his total price would have only been $20+ less than I'll get it from Buds ( incl. FFL trans.) ,they already had my FFL on file, and I may get lucky and have it by the weekend !!
Anyway, I have a Weaver 2-7x V series scope, fully multi-coated, yadda yadda, that I got a killer deal on and really like ( I now have it on a Marlin 60). I also have lying around a Tasco world class that I've never used ( and don't exactly recall how i got). From what I've read, these are decent scopes for the money, but I'm considering taking the Weaver off the 60 and putting it on the nicer CZ, and maybe using the Tasco for the Marlin. OR......should I get something new entirely for the CZ ? I can spend more money, but I'd like to keep this project as economical as possible, too.
Also, the Weaver is mounted to the 60 with basic $12 Leupold aluminum rimfire rings. I blue-loctited them and they've been fine, but should I consider something better for the CZ? And exactly what size ?
As always, any and all input much appreciated.......M.

First, is this for hunting or target shooting/fun? For hunting, a 1-4 or 2-7 is great. For target shooting, I like much more magnification and a larger objective.

Second, the iron sights on a Marlin 60 are fair to partly crappy, so I'd tend to want to leave the scope on it, and get a new scope or use the Tasco for the 452 American (the American has NO sights, correct?). Which line of Tasco, and what are the specs on it? Is one of these your "hunter" and one your target shooter, or 2 hunters, or two target shooters, or what?

As for rings, my default rings for rimfire are Burris rimfires. I like steel rings, even on an aluminum receiver. I think the 452 American has the standard 3/8th" dovetail rail, in which case you want (of course) 3/8th" standard rimfire/dovetail rings.

I put a Simmons 22 mag scope on mine and it has fine cross hairs, because that puppy is accurate!

Burris Signature Zee rings are nice. You have some adjustments within the rings that are not available on other rings. I have a set and they're cool, but I never used the bushing adjustment. Just buy good steel. 3/8ths.

I didn't get lambasted for this earlier in a different thread, so I'll repeat. We're talking rimfires . . . don't forget the cheap scopes . . . you know . . . the ones you wouldn't even think about putting on a centerfire because of recoil. NCStar, Barska, Tasco, BSA (not so much), etc. They offer big power with some pretty cool reticles (some rediculous). Make sure they're clear. I have a Barska Excavator 4-16x 50mm AO w/ Illuminated Reticle. I have some issues with it but not in function (the view doesn't quite fill up the ocular - I keep adjusting my neck thinking it's eye relief but it's in full view). It's clear, has 1/8th inch adjustments AND WAS $94 with rings (aluminum), caps, and a sun shade. My Weavers and Leupolds start at $300.

If you're doing surgery with this thing, fine duplex is nice. Hunting or shooting the little steel swingers, I'd have say a target dot.

I have a Weaver Classic V 4-16x 42mm AO w/Target Dot on two rimfires. One is a CZ 453 American. You don't need that much power on a rimfire . . . but it surely is nice. I can't recommend any scope more than this one (I have a bunch of different optics - one old super nice Leica even). The little CZ is certainly worthy of a nice, big powered optic - it will do surgery.

Oh . . . CZ rings are nice. Though it's not really important, it's cool to have a CZ rifle with CZ rings. They're steel and made for the gun. They're just twice as expensive as most.

I have a Finland made Browning Bolt Varmint with Browning Rings and Browning Scope (Redfield made I think). It always gets comments when I pull it out of the safe because it's all Browning.

I have a Mueller APV 4.5-14x on my CZ 452 Varmint with Warne mounts and rings. I like it but it is a bit big for woods walking, but for sitting for squirrels it would work just fine. Many of the rimfire crowd really love this scope.

I really recommend the Weaver rimfire scopes. They are high quality and you can choose either the 2.5-7x in black or silver or the 3-9x AO in black matte.

I'd get a new scope for a new rifle!!

rimfire . . . how does the Mueller compare to the Weaver? I've been looking for a new scope for Dad - he's got my old 4x Leupold. I've looked at Muellers, but nobody I shoot with has one.

It is very clear and sharp and holds zero well. It is made in China but I understand that Mueller assembles these per a posting in another forum. Mueller is new to the scope game and I don't think you will be disappointed if you are looking for that kind of magnification. You'll see lots of pictures of them mounted over at RimfireCentral in the Ruger, Remington and CZ subforums. I think Weaver is a better scope and comparable to Leupold in the rimfire line.

I don't adjust the scope much once it is sighted in like the target crowd do. Although I do adjust once I settle on a particular ammo preference. I like to hit, but I'm more into groups and if the groups are a little high or low, it doesn't matter to me until I settle in on one ammo choice such as Wolf Match Target.

I still shoot Thunderbolts too. Many shooters have quit even buying them. But they still work okay for me but they don't group that well consistantly. It just depends on how I feel the day I'm shooting. I don't always shoot expensive ammo. I have a couple of cases of PMC Moderators that I like which get me down in the 0.35" area at 50 yds.

I have the Leupold VX1 2-7 rimfire on 452 American. I wish I'd gotten the fixed 4X, as I generally keep it on 2-4. The glass is plenty clear out to 22 ranges. The parallax is correct. It is really light.

I was going for low weight, so I went with (fairly low) cheap aluminum rings, lapped and loc-tited. The rifle, with scope, rings, and nylon Ching sling, was so light I had to install the Automation Solutions sear. You should do this anyway. There's a picture of it on here somewhere. Now I'm trying to learn how to shoot it.

Hey guys, many thanks for the replies. To answer some questions : this rifle will be a target/plinking toy, no hunting other than the very occasional tree rat. As I said, I'm VERY happy with the Weaver V-7, it's been fantastic on my Marlin 60. If I yank it off to mount on the CZ, I'd put the tasco world class on in it's place, no iron sights for me shooting at 1'' targets !! . To answer another question, the Tasco is a 3-9 power, no AO,looks to be a 40mm. objective, writing on the bell says TASCO WORLD CLASS TRUE MIL-DOT. As I said, I don't even recall how I got this thing, but it looks decent enough for a .22. though I'm leaning towards "22-rimfire"s advice to just re-scope it. For that I'm leaning towards a scope I've recommended myself about a hundred times here on THR, the Busnell Elite 4200 3-9.
I just got offa work, gotta check over at SWFA for a few.........M.
P.S. I just noticed SWFA jacked the 4200 up by $50 bucks since I was last there. ( fargin bastages!! ) So now I'm eyeballin' this.......http://www.swfa.com/pc-13751-203-new-burris-3-9x40-fullfield-ii-rifle-scope.aspx Quality company, fully multi-coated lenses,"forever" warranty, and the free binos don't hurt, either.

I've got a Tasco Varmint scope on my CZ 452, and while it does the job well enough, what I really want on it is a Weaver T-36. Someday, someday. Consider replacing the factory trigger on your CZ with the Rifle Basix model. The difference is substantial.
