I put a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 in layaway. I shot a friends with cheap wolf and Tula ammo and was amazed with the accuracy from 50-100 yards with steel sights. I am planning on putting a scope on it but am not sure what I should use. 150 is probably about the max distance I would shoot. I know the gun has some clearance issues with scopes unless you use high rings. I am considering a Weaver fixed 6x38 or a 2x7x 32,33,34 by Redfield, Weaver, or Nikkon. Does anyone have any reccomendations. I would like to keep it under $175 since I bought the gun to shoot cheap ammo.

Where did you get the rings at? Also does your rifle shoot cheap Russian Ammo well?

I don't have the carbine but have the 527 action in the FS. From what I can tell, you might as well go with a 40- or 42-mm objective because you're probably going to need the height for the factory bolt handle to clear the ocular bell anyway. Here's a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 on my FS. I could drop the scope a little more, but not enough to reduce the gap between the objective bell and the barrel by more than about half. BTW, CZ now offers a bolt handle that provides more clearance if you want to drop the scope more than the factory handle will allow.

The local shop where I got the rifle had the rings as well.
I think it does alright with the Russian ammo. Here are some targets shot at 100yds. using my shooting bag as a rest:

The larger Shoot-N-C targets have five shots each on them: take away that flier from the target on the left and I think that group works for steel cased Russian ammo.
For sure, the operator needs a lot of practice.

Greg

BTW, that's a nice looking rifle I6turbo :)

Thanks. Your's too, and good shooting. I don't NEED one, but I've been wanting a Carbine for months and months. I clicked a GB buy-it-now on a 7.62x39 a few weeks ago and got a message within about 30 seconds that they'd JUST sold it in the store. I have a bad habit of refinishing the stocks on perfectly good CZs (have not refinished the 527 above, though), and this carbine had a beautiful dark mineral streak in the wood so I was bummed that I missed it. I've only ever read good things about the 527 Carbines, and based upon how much I like the FS (and my 452s and 550s), I think I'd like it a lot. Maybe someday.... :)

KYamature: I have been shooting a CZ 527 762x39 for several years now. My Son and I have found that WOLF 124 GR HP`s seem to shoot the best for us. An inch or less at a 100 yds most of the time. Got a deal on several cases of this ammo and have not started reloading for it yet. I carry this little rifle when I am out just looking around, it has all the power I need in Kansas. And because I carry it all the time I have taken several Coyotes in the last few years. A 200 yd shot is not a real big thing if I do my part. We bought the gun used and it had a set of Talley rings on it, and I put a old Nikon 3x9x40 we had on hand and it works just fine. The bolt is close to the rings but does not cause any type of problems for us. It is just great for carrying out walking around, I have not even put a sling on ours, and the clip does not get in my way when I carry it. I have not experienced any FTF rounds with any thing I have tried in it. It is cheap to shoot, very accurate, light recoil, and a real pleasure for a old man to carry. I like it. Best of luck with your rifle keep us posted on how it shoots.

CZ e-mailed me back and told me that they were made for CIP spec and not SAAMI spec shells. He told me that the gun preferred cheap steel ammo over brass. He told me not to worry about scope size, that the whole issue of clearance was blown up on the web. He said I could get a new bolt handle if I wanted low mounts but that most people just get whatever scope they want with taller rings and everything works just fine. He said it wasn't made to be a bench rest rifle anyways. Now I am excited. I get a few days off in Novemeber and I'm going to go pick it up. I found it new for $599. Quite a bit cheaper than what I've seen on GB.

I have a 527 in .223 and use a 2-7x33 Redfield Revolution with Warne medium rings and the modified bolt handle from CZ-USA.

Everything works as far as clearance as the Redfield optic has a small bell on the eyepiece. I haven't gotten to a 100 range with it yet but it's very accurate at 50 yards.
