I am currently looking at the CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar in .223 and had questions about rate twist and bullet weights. I know that the CZ Kevlar has a 1:9 twist rate. I know that 1:9 is better than say 1:12 for heavier bullets. My question is how will the 1:9 affect say WWB 45gr. bullet or a Black Hills 55gr.?
I currently don't have the time or money to start reloading right now.

TIA,
Justin

I have a 1 in 9 .223 as well. I was told to shoot between 50gr-69gr bullets. Black Hills 55gr works great with my rifle.

that is fine. you can shoot these rounds out of a 1/7 bbl , if you wanna. A 1/8 twist can get you up to about 75 to 78 grains. a 1/9 twist can get you up to about 70 or72 gains.

I've found that some 1:9s aren't "true" 1:9s. I had a Savage bolt gun with a 1:9 twist, 24" barrel on it that wouldn't shoot 75gr Hornadys too well, but my 1:9 20" A3 Bushmaster shot those like a house a fire.

Bullet length dictates necessary twist rate to stablize, more than weight - it's just easier to compare using bullet weight. In short, your 1:9 should shoot 68gr Hornadys or 69gr SMKs pretty well. Try the 75gr Hornady and see if it works, it might, it might not. I've shot 52gr SMKs out of a 1:8 and they made it to the target fine.

Both my .223s are 1 in 9" twist - Savage 12BVSS and Rem 700LTR , they both have shot 52 match bullets with excellent results. The LTR with an older lot of Berger 55 Varmint bullets gave me some of the best accuracy I ever saw with a factory rifle.
