I have been trying to decide between the Beretta or CZ. Berettas are cheaper these days, and CZ's cost more latly, so $$ is not a factor.

From what I have read, the Beretta is a tad more accurate, and maybe has the better trigger. The CZ is nice, and feels better in the hand.

Anyone have both? My dad has the 92, which I have shot many times and like it, but I have held the CZ and it does feel nice.

I think they are both good designs. You should hold them both at the same time and pick the one that fits your hand the best. I never did like the feel and look of the beretta (Never shot one though). My CZ75b just feels so much better and like to be able to carry cock and locked. You could also look into a Taurus PT92 which is a Beretta clone with a frame mounted safety that functions just like the one the CZ has.

I have the 96 and a CZ P06. The Beretta fits my hand perfectly and may not for you. I suggest you rent and shoot both prior to making a decision. The gun has to fit you, not anyone else. Just so you know I have put over 6,000 rounds through the 96 without a hiccup, both at the indoor range and IDPA shoots. Very reliable weapon. I only have around 500 rounds through the P06 so far and it has had no problems.

Go with the CZ-75. It's a bit smaller, and if it fits better in your hand, the better it is. I know I became a better shooter whenever I shot one. I was never impressed with the Beretta 92. It is a huge 9mm, for the capacity, and the grip is a little awkward for me.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. Neither gun has any appreciable advantage over the other. It's purely personal preference.

I own a few CZ75s and have friends with Berettas. I don't like their guns and they don't like mine, but all of them shoot great and work 100% reliably.

A few things I do not like about the Beretta 92 is the slide mounted safety and the takedown lever.

The CZ75s controls are very similar to a 1911s, which I like a lot since I also have a few of those.

CZ 75 vs Beretta 92.

The Beretta may be more accurate, but is the inherent difference in accuracy a critical factor for which you are going to use the gun?

Both guns are reliable, so the issue is which one feels better to you?

If a gun is unreliable, it doesn't matter how good it feels.

Next for me is how is the trigger. I don't like double action, rarely use it.
The single action pull has to be acceptable.

How are the sights?

How about ease of hitting things like safties, slide and magazine releases?

Felt recoil is an issue for some.

If you can, get about 200 rounds of ammo and run 100 thru each gun. Pick the one which feels better.

Hope this helps.

Once you know that they are both proven reliable pieces, it is just a matter of taste. They actual handle and feel so different from one another, you could probably make your final decision just by holding them in your hand. For me the 92 has a grip that feels like a 2x4. But, some people like it. I think if you just handle them for a bit, the decision will be obvious to you.

Beretta 92 vs CZ75B

I've had both. Sold the Beretta, have a bunch of CZs. Obviously, I like CZs much better than Berettas. However, you need to try out both to see which is best for you.

Best regards.

Though I am from the camp that says "both" as I have examples of each, were I to have to rid myself of one, I'd be hard pressed, and here's why:

B92 Pros:

1) Magazines are everywhere. Though an AWB2 is a relative pipe dream now, when there was one on, B92 mag prices remained reasonable.

2) Better parts availability and aftermarket support. If there is something that can be changed or fluffed and buffed on a pistol, it exists for the B92 and the aftermarket parts and services are easier to find and come from more than a handful of sources.

3) More reliable. At least in my experience the B92 is less prone to malfs than my CZ-85B

------

CZ Pros

1) It's tougher. All steel construction trumps the B92's aluminum alloy frame. If you leave your mag brake intact, you'll never FUBAR a mag or a base plate again either.

2) It's more ergonomic. It is a trimmer pistol and the controls are all where they were best intended to be. The only usual complaint is the long reach to the trigger.

3) It is capable of cocked and locked or decocked carry. I like C&L carry, but some don't. If you want to never have a DA/SA transition in a double stack 9mm, the CZ 75/85 is the reasonably priced way to go.

--------

They're both great pistols. One can hardly go wrong.

I bought a Beretta in the early 1980's. I bought a CZ75 when the CZ was still behind the iron curtain. I mention these facts because the guns may have changed since then and my experience may not be valid in terms of current production. However, at that early date, the trigger on the CZ was remarkably good. Much better than the Beretta, SIG 226, S&W M59, or Star, all of which I owned at the time. And the accuracy of the CZ was also outstanding. That CZ is now the only DA 9mm pistol that I own. It is too large for a carry gun, but it is just dandy for HD.

Get the CZ, you can always borrow your dad's whenever you feel like it.;)

Is the CZ's frame cast? Should that matter in a good slide to frame fit?

I'm lusting for a Stainless 75, and should I run up on one used for $400, it will be mine.

Anyone know the best plance on the internet to get one, or what dealer cost is? I do business with a FFL in NC, so I would have to do a transfer, but he said he would get me one at cost if I wanted it. It just did not seem like I would save much. Between shipping to SC then paying the FFL.

...at one point I owned both. I still own a CZ...but not the Beretta.

Should I go with the B or BD? If I go stainless, it look like I have no choice but B.

I bought my last one from Angus Hobdell. He's on the CZ shooting team and has a shop in Mesa, AZ. His prices are about $100 less than is advertized on the CZUSA website.

I have both the Beretta 92 and I have 2 CZ 75s (with Crimson Trace Lasers). I think that speaks for itself. I liked the CZ so much I went out a got another one, primarily for carry (got my CCW). I like the way the CZ shoots better, accuracy is comparable, but I believe CZ is a better gun all around (constructed better...ect).

I recommend going to a range where you can rent different firearms and try out the Beretta 92 and the CZ 75 to help you make your decision. You now know what we think...it's your move!

Sure Thing,

I think the bases have been covered for you pretty well. THR members are a great source of info. I also owned a Beretta 92 and for me, it was large for a 9mm. The grip was somewhat blocky as well. It is an outstanding pistol however, it didn't win the US Army trials by accident. Beretta's are very reliable, but if you go the range or shoot at a club, in my experience, you don't see a lot of people shooting Beretta's like you do other brands.

I sold my Beretta 92. Just not a good fit for me personally. I have 3 CZ's now, and heaven help me, they are becoming my primary platform. I have even put up my 1911's, something I never dreamed of doing.

CZ's make an average shooter look like a great shooter. My 75 and 97 are just stellar shooters, and for some reason, they are very easy to shoot well.

I have a theory that the lock time on a CZ is perhaps a few milliseconds quicker to primer impact than other pistols, so even if you don't have a perfect trigger squeeze, you're still closer to you intended target when the bullet exists the bore.

I hope I answered your question ;)

I usually dont respond to versus threads, they usually go bad quick, ending in flaming or lock. that said I have both, carry the 75 every day. My worthless advice is get the 75.

try at least a hundred rounds through both and see what works best for you. asking others what gun to get won't help you.

with regards to a CZ-75 B or BD, it's whichever you are most comfortable with. a B will allow you to cock and lock, or do a DA first pull. the BD has a decocker so you will always be doing a DA first pull, but you can easily lower the hammer after you're done shooting with little or no chance of the gun going off.
