If you are given a chance to buy one of them (not both), which one would you pick:
  1. Beretta M9A1
  2. CZ 75 SP01

In terms of accuracy (up to 50ft) and crisp trigger break, which one has a better edge?

CZ's and similar-pattern guns are well-represented in the gun games. Berettas are a relative rarity. Make of that what you will.

For me I would pick the Beretta M9A1 but anyone considering both should try out both, ideally at the same time at the range, and then make their decision on what works best for them.

The CZ any day of the week. I have had to rely on both in the past the CZ never let me down. M9 are at best over rated. Yes they are an issue side arm both are really. I have seen M9s come apart never seen a CZ do that.

The Beretta will likely have a better trigger, out of the box, but after a couple of hundred rounds, there'll be little difference, and the SP-01, depending on the model, will also allow cocked & locked start, etc.

The SP-01 is really designed as a lower-cost "gun games" weapon.

I'd consider buying one directly from the CZ Custom Shop with trigger work already done. You'll pay a bit more, but you'll love what you'll end up with.

The CZ, having direct experience with both. The Beretta M9 I fired was a good gun, but too large, and the trigger wasn't as nice as the one my my SP-01 Phantom. Accuracy was pretty decent, and functioning very good. I also have to say the M-9 I fired was NOT a beat to death current military issue, but a reasonably well kept civilian sidearm.
Walt is correct that the original intent of the SP-01 was an entry race gun, but the deign has gone much past there with entries like the Tactical and my personal favorite, the polymer SP-01 Phantom.

I suppose it may depend on what my use for it would be. However I have a 92FS and love it. The only thing I'd change about it would be the addition of a light rail (which the 92A1 has). But if it were for carrying, I'd probably go with the CZ.

I use mine as the accessable gun in my house.

Having shot them both, the CZ wins hands down. Beretta grip is way too wide for my hands, accuracy past 5 yards was abysmal due entirely to the bad ergonomics, I think.

My buddy has an SP-01. I made him give me dibs if he ever thinks of selling it. Its a very well made, well designed gun. Feels perfectly balanced in the hand, sweet trigger, excellent sights. It would be my first-choice full size handgun if I couldn't have a 1911.

To each his own, though. Try them both. Fit matters.

*the CZ I've shot was the all metal SP-01 "tactical" model with the rubber grip panels. Never run into the polymer version.

M9/92 I realize its got a lot of haters (which gun doesnt?) for their various reasons, size, issued weapon, safety, etc. Yet its still a good gun with recoil so light that follow up shots are acquired quickly.

Beretta and similar guns are well-represented in the holsters of men who put their lives in harms way. CZ's are an extreme rarity for such uses.

Gun games should prepare you for real life emergencies. I have no problem with those who play, but prefer to keep it as real as possible with gun choices. I've owned CZ's before. They tend to be more accurate than average. Important when keeping score. But their reliability has been suspect. Most who put their lives at risk will give up a bit of accuracy for utter reliability.

Beretta is still not my 1st choice, but well ahead of CZ. Beretta is not perfect, but about as reliable as they come.

Gaming/Range: CZ SP01
Anything else: M9A1

Own or have owned both AND fired both a lot.

The CZ fits my hand better than the Beretta. Only full size Beretta pistol that felt good in my hand was the Vertec which had a straight vertical backstrap, redesigned trigger, and thinner grip panels.

CZ. Grip feels better. Less bulky. Great trigger rivaled only by the Python (my CZ is the Mod A).

DA/SA pull length?

Besides the grip, which most of you agree that CZ feels better, which gun has a shorter trigger pull both in the DA and SA actions?

Can't comment on the Beretta. I have shot a 92FS, but that was a long time ago, but I remember the trigger being OK, but not great. Hey, it's a service pistol, not a tuned target gun.

I have a few CZ's and I like their triggers. For DA I keep my 75B on the half cock notch which reduces DA trigger travel and trigger reach. My 75D PCR decocks to the half cock notch, and that trigger is a bit lighter and crisper all around.

I think you'd be well served with either, but I do prefer the CZ's for how they fit my hand.

I'd go with the CZ. I love my phantom, and with its trigger job the SA is better than my STI Spartan. I've only shot a beater 92. It was okay, but I didn't care for it that much. If issued to me I would be okay with it though...maybe.

I hear people like James Yeager and a few on here talk about how unreliable CZ's are, but I've never had an issue with mine. Its my daily carry and gets banged around and minimal cleaning yet has never had a problem.

Despite its abuse, its finish looks almost new on the slide. The polymer frame helps protect the slide from holster wear (due to the slide sitting in the frame). Got to love that feature.

Anyone?

This is mostly just my perception, but the first shot I fired in DA on the 92 felt like I was pulling the trigger back forever.

I much prefer the Sig and CZ DA over the beretta...actually the sig over my cz too, but I'm trying keep from remembering that so I don't have to buy one.

Stock, First is better on the CZ. SA better on the Berreta. Beretta's DA can be improved easily and cheaply with a 92D mainspring. I owned both and still have the beretta, so I may be biased a lil.

I carried one in the .mil because they told me I had to and would court martial me if I got caught with something I'd supplied on my own.

Beretta isn't carried much by those who have recourse to select their own weapons. On the SOF side of the military they're loathed, and in LEO circles outside departments that issue them I don't personally know anyone who opts to carry one in departments that provide the option.

The M9 is a workable gun, not especially durable and leaving much to be desired in terms of ergonomics. It will get the job done. The CZ is markedly superior in terms of handling and ergonomics. People can debate durability, but I've seen more broken M9 locking blocks in my career than is appropriate for any issue duty weapon.
