Thanks to your voice, DOD has rescinded the order to mutilate all spent cases as of 4:30 pm on 3/17/09. We appreciate the time and effort that you expended, together we all made a difference. We will be posting the email we received from DOD as well as any additional information within the next 12-16 hours. Thanks so much and lets get to work!!! Posted on Georgia Arms website.

Ding dong the witch is dead :)

Let this stand as a demonstration of how quickly we can achieve a victory when everyone in the shooting community pulls together.

Thanks to everyone who wrote, called, faxed, or emailed their elected representatives regarding this issue. You guys rock.

From an employee of the .gov liquidators.

.... The facts as I know them, which come directly from candid discussions with my CEO, indicate the following:

- Prior to 11/2008, Demil B items required no mutilation for sale to the public. That policy changed in November, but several exceptions were granted. Expended munitions brass was one of those given a waiver.

- Enter the new administration. Since Demil B category items had been given a broad, general label as "national security sensitive" someone above the DRMS (likely in the DLA) reviewed the policy and immediately went with a CYA policy and yanked all exemptions. No thoughts or considerations were given to the implications of this policy change, but this directive was issued to DOD Surplus effective immediately last week.

- **** storm blows up as a result. In particular, the letters, phone calls, and emails to our legislators, the media, and anyone else who would listen caused this policy to be review post haste.

- As of this morning our company was informed that expended munitions brass will now be reclassified as Demil Q –– which requires no mutilation unless sold to a foreign country.

There you have it. The policy change was simply the result of some n00b administrator attempting to close a perceived "national security" loophole and brass got caught up in the snare. There was no political motivation behind the policy change, but it is good that people like us were suspicious, got involved, and helped bring about a resolution.

This is good news. Let's enjoy this moment with an eye towards the horizon. There's always more where these ideas come from, innocent or not.

Now get on them demilling M-14s and Garands and cabines-!!
The cmp gets some you know they distroy many especially the M-14s that with a small weld are converted to semiauto !!!!!

Wow is all I can say.

I read this for the first time today on THR and I could think was, that F,n Obama administration working some socialist incrementalism into our lives. My hats off to all that wrote letters and called, very impressive.

Okay, I have an admission to make here. This was the first issue I decided to get over shyness and jump into the fray on. I e-mailed all of my legislators today on this issue. Feels pretty damned good to have played even a small role in this.

I think I'll keep it up, what's next?

So, tell me, do you STILL believe it does no good to contact your Senators and Congressperson ? :scrutiny:

This is a classic case of heat being applied to the correct part of the anatomy. Good Job, everyone. :D

Now to get them congress critters to get our money back from the money grubbers then vote them sob's out of office from the top down or bottom up, don't matter but they gotta go.

Whether it was political or not the responsible n00b administrator should probably go apply for a management job at AIG. He would get bonuses for those kinds of policies.

I suspect that a fair number of congressmen now know that once-fired military brass is a sensitive subject to some fairly vocal people.

"Get Off My Brass!" makes a good political statement.

I suspect that a fair number of congressmen now know that once-fired military brass is a sensitive subject to some fairly vocal people.

big negative on that. A fair number of congressmen are wrapped up in the economy a lot more than some DoD policy on destruction on spent brass. That's like number 10,058,684,737,372,745 on their list of things to worry about.

Wasn't the entire thing just a clerical error?

sounds like it, although this doesn't satisify the conspiracy theorists who think "the man" was trying to cut off ammo supplies to the civie market. For a DoD level directive to be overturned so quickly, it was not due to a bunch of folks who reload, writing to their congressman.

Good job!

The situation reminded me of this:

" . . . when you talk about damage radius, even atomic weapons pale before that of an unfettered idiot in a position of power." -- Sam Starfall

I have to wonder, though, how much stink would this have stirred up if we weren't in the midst of this present ammo shortage?

Read Between the Lines Folks!

I am absolutely thrilled this happened. This event was fairly minor, completely outside the scope of congress or the courts, but it didn't go unnoticed by the gun rights crowd. The tumultuous uproar that occurred almost instantly got the attention of multiple senators, and had the DOD moving at light speed to backtrack.

If nothing else, this event sent a clear and screeching message to DC that we are watching, we are aware, and no matter how minor or under the radar any attempts to push gun control might be, you can bet your chair we won't miss them.

We, the people, beat the NRA or any of the other "gun orgs" to the punch on this one. We were organized, we were informed, and we used resources within the system to get information to force a reversal of this "minor issue." I can assure you that level of autonomous national organization won't go unnoticed in DC.

This is the first time in my life that I have witnessed gun rights minded individuals come together on an issue without the assistance or direction of the mainstream "gun orgs." You can bet your vote that I'm not the only one among our ranks that noticed that either!
