Days Like This...

You made a mess of that white snow on the berm.

It's been unseasonably warm and dry here in Illinois. I did a little shooting su day afternoon. My wife and daughter in law joined me for a ccw shootaround in the back yard.
I never see myself moving away as I am encircled by family and friends. We have long and strong ties with the land here.
I do however, have the perfect job to be a snowbird. Our fieldwork is either done or rained out by Thanksgiving and doesn't begin until about April 1st. That leaves quite a bit of opportunity for travel. As long as I dont have a big project underway like the one in the picture above..
We have been to Florida for a week....

...and are leaving in the am for @ms6852 land (Texas) for a week of honky-tonkin' and live music scene with some friends from our area about 40 minutes north of San Antonio in the Canyon Lake area.
As far as shooting goes... years ago we always packed our trap guns and found a shoot somewhere. I have been out of the loop so long now, that I'm not sure if the little hometown gun clubs still exist in the numbers we enjoyed in the 70s and 80s.?
The only guns going to tx with us are our ccws.
That looks like quite a shop going up there! I would love to do a larger garage to give me room for tinkering and reloading without climbing over motorcycles half the time.

Have fun in your trip. My cousin Chris Duarte was just honored on February 29 by the City of Austin for his decades of work and contributions to Texas blues music. I don’t know if he’ll be around when you are down there, but if he’s playing locally, check him out. :D

Stay safe.

Man, wish I was back home. Spending time in West Texas, Alpine with my father . Maybe one day the stars will align. Beautiful area around Canyon Lake. Have a safe trip.

Hereabouts, winter weather is either moderately cold, chill and damp, or warm and raining.
We did have some snow followed by a week long hard freeze a few weeks ago.
Last Saturday and Sunday were ok for shooting, I made an IDPA match and a USPSA match.
Forecast for rain off and on this week and next, including this Saturday.

Coyote season ends the 15th.
Last time I shot it was single digits, 20 plus MPH wind and snow 4" deep on conservation club benches.
Yeah, was only one out in that LOL
Cleaned off bench, put a Shoot n C at 50 yards and double checked a .223. Was right on.

Try to call some dogs this weekend.
Was 73 yesterday.

The smart way to handle the auger.
Sounds like a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon

We had an unusual number of days with snow this winter, lasted about a week due to some melting then freezing on roads.

West TN

OP, at least you have open land for shooting, beautiful forest,
mountains. No nasty urban area of massive 'blanco appeasement;)' kowtowing in your region.
A friend drove about fifteen years ago from here to Glacier N. Park and enjoyed it. This is just a photo link to a park image; no Russian, Albanian, Chinese, Indian, Nigerian "stuff".

ugh. A buddy of mine and I are moving out of Wa. We were looking at Montana, SD, Nebraska,
This last winter convinced him to join me in looking more south, Texas, Al., Fla, Ga, Ms, etc.

I do have that in any direction I choose. And I don't see myself ever leaving. But I would like to try snowbirding once. A friend who works in AZ w/ Border Patrol sent me a few pics of the desert at sunset and it was beautiful.

Don't wanna jinx anything, but my part of Ohio has been really moderate the last few years. Probably haven't gotten 6" of snow all winter and only had about a week of temps below 15°.
The poor kids around here have only had one snow day in like 3 years.

Summer is usually a solid month of 90+ and humid with a few high 90's or triple digit days. Last couple years I don't think we've hit triple digits at all and the miserable weather was over before Labor Day.
We do get more severe thunderstorms lately and tornadoes pass by from time to time.

North FL sucks.... the best place in FL is the Central East Coast between Vero Beach to Daytona Beach.

That's the best area for surfing!

I moved to St. Augustine in 2001, lived on Anastasia Island till 2004. Got tired of dealing with the tourist traffic.

Had a house built in Palm Coast. I think it's the perfect location. I'm 20 miles south of St. Augustin, and around 25 miles north of Daytona, but don't have to deal with tourist that much. I can't walk to the beach anymore thou. I'm 2 miles inland as the crow flies, but it's a 7 mile drive to the nearest beach access with good parking showers, and bathrooms.
