I've got a Stack On pistol safe with two shelves, and was wondering whether to put an electical dehumidifier in it, or just go for silicon bags.

The cabinet is agout 21" x 18" x 10", so the volume is small.

I was thinking about getting one of the small rechargeable, cordless dehumidifiers that are available.

It's summer here, and , because of high humidity, I've been giving my handguns a more generous wipe down with oil than I normally would, before storage.

I leave them open, on their sides, on the fabric that covers the shelves.

I really need to find an alternative.

If it was me, I would opt for getting those guns off of the fabric and onto one of the plastic-coated wire racks that hold them vertically. Fabric attracts moisture, and oily guns stain fabric - either way, not good.

As for dessicant - here in humid FL, I use a golden rod, a plug-in like you mentioned and three large boxes in a relatively small safe (rifle and pistol). In your situation, I would think the plug-in one or a large box you dry in the oven should be fine, unless you are on the beach.
