GunnyUSMC: I could offer opinions as to whether guns or a fine woman are best for your life, but find it best to keep those opinions to myself. I consider myself lucky to have both a wife for many years and several guns. Perhaps I don't have as much money or guns as some who are unmarried, but neither guns nor money would keep me as warm at night and well-fed...even though they keep us safe and help keep food in the freezer. ;)

With you, Picher! Yesterday I told my wife of 30+ years, "I bought another rifle ..." She just laughed.

As a young man, one thing I wanted was to find a sweet woman to marry, have kids, and grow old together. I tried that twice and it didn't turn out so good. But when it comes to guns, I have been lucky or blessed.
The last thing I need right now is another service size pistol, but I really have the urge to pick up a surplus CZ75. :)

Yes. Even this past year I've bought for want and not for need. After buying several firearms due to that, I'm trying to step back from those urges and actually shoot those guns. Lol. :D

Amen! The last three guns I bought were for want and not need... and short of the LCP II I bought for Off duty last year I think the five or six before that were more want-guns as well .

Stay safe!

I’m batting .500 on the sweet woman to marry part... the starter wife and I just didn’t cut it and split up after 3 years...my second wife and I have been good together for the past 15 years and counting.

Guns. I’m batting a solid .900 on. The vast majority have been a lot of fun and enjoyment, but a few over the years were klinkers.

Stay safe!

If you want a very honest, straight answer, which might attract scorn and ridicule:
Sold both M-1 Garands and began buying the first of several imported AKs.

I literally cheated death twice in the last year (100% blocked Widowmaker artery, and head-on driver on very dark country highway: the grassy shoulder saved me).
Was already becoming very honest with myself that most benchrest shooting doesn't "do it". Decided even more to only use reactive targets.

Don't need very nice CMP Garands (despite being Very cool) for Academy's plastic target cubes/spheres at 50 yards, or to use at 30 yards max. on Action Pistol ranges.

Life is far too short to simply follow the main crowd. Have some fun before it's too late, but you might have zero warning that today is your Last Day.

Nearly every gun I own was acquired for a specific purpose. The only exceptions are family heirlooms and gift firearms from my father.

Now, I will buy a few guns for a single purpose in the quest to find the best tool for the job. Which is why I currently have three pistols for CCW and two pistols for woods carry.

But I still have only purchased one hunting rifle in 20 years; a Ruger M77 in .30-06 in 1998. I have two other hunting rifles, but they were gifts from my dad. I still only hunt with the $350 Ruger even though I have a $17,000 custom rifle.

Because I am financially limited, which might very well not be your situation, I can understand why someone would not bring an expensive rifle in the woods, but please tell me you shoot that firearm from time to time!

It's chambered in .35 Whelen, which I am not set up to load for. I have a box or two of custom loads for it that my dad cooked up. But I haven't shot it in 4 years or so. That was when I last took it into the woods on an elk hunt in Idaho...
