Did you guys hear me?!

Like they said in The Christmas Story, "still a cloud of obscenities floating over north eastern Ohio" (OK, that part I ad-libbed)

Last time/1st time this happened to me was with a new bottle of Blue Dot.

I sat and picked out debris with tweezers for 10 days after that, salvaging most.

I don't think I have the patience for that again.

I did it again fellas.

Loaded up my Square Deal hopper with ½-¾lb of #9 to load some test 10mm and forgot to tighten down the clamp.

Pulled the handle and, away it goes! Hits the floor and sprayed powder EVERYWHERE!!

:cuss:
How can anyone “Like” that post???

Sorry, I was in a Zoom meeting with the headset on. Couldn’t hear it but I too felt a tremor in The Force.

Maybe pin a note to the hopper, “Tighten the clamp, dummy!” ?

My brother has a RCBS Chargemaster powder dispenser. He was loading one night and emptied the dispenser. I told him it would make a big mess if you didn't close the drain plug.
Sure as heck a couple of days later he filled up the hopper and it wasn't closed. He had it on the side of the table when he emptied it and when he refilled it he had a bunch of powder all over the floor.

I’ve done the same dang thing. After the first time I did this

Can I "like" this part twice!?

Got it cleaned up.

I saved what was on my bench but tossed (in the yard) what hit the floor.

Used a fine bristle brush for 90-95% and my Shop-vac for the rest.

I'd guess what I was able to salvage, what was still in the hopper and what was left in the bottle adds up to ½lb.

Could've been worse I suppose and I didn't blow myself up with the Shop-vac so I got that going for me.

Gonna do that too.

"Funny" thing about this time was I actually took the clamp and screw all the way out and put it in plain view so I wouldn't forget, normally I just loosen the clamp but leave it attached to the hopper.

Maybe I'll get a little, fluorescent flag and attach it to the clamp...

And away we go!:)

I wouldn't use my Shop-vac for big spills like this even if it wasn't a potential safety issue because I wanted to save as much as possible.

In the end I vacuumed about 2-3 .45 colt cases worth (maybe less) that was under the legs of my bench (they're treated 4x4's) a little bit in the felt of a gun cleaning mat at the other end of my bench (it's an 8' long bench) and whatever I could even see that might have been scattered across the concrete floor (12'x12' room)

I'm not familiar with the powder measure. Sorry to hear about the spill.

Thats kind of like "A right of Passage" with a ChargeMaster! I did it once and kicked myself more than once!

Thats a good idea. I have a label maker!

I'm old school. I have the regular hornady powder drop powder measures. Two of them one set up for handgun and the other set up for rifle.
I do have a electronic hornady powder measure but it is still in the box sitting on a shelf.

I dropped three charges (~40gr) of AA#9 onto the floor yesterday when I failed to raise the case into the expanding die which peeved me off. If I spilled1/2# of AA#9 onto the floor, I'd of lost my flipping mind!
Needless to say, losing primers and spilling powders are a right of passage for reloaders.

Beats loading a squib or a double. Lots can go wrong, best we can do is try and stay on top of things.

Some of the best learned lessons are the ones that cost you the most at the swear jar. How long do you think it will be until you repeat the mistake?
