Dillon 750 vs. Rockchucker Press Precision For .223

Nothing wrong with the APP. I run mine with a case feeder and a 1000 pieces an hour for decapping is an easy mark to hit. I use it for all pistol brass pre tumble, and some of my rifle brass.
I use the Lee Case Feed, works and cheap. I’m going to get a 750 or 1100 eventually, just getting the parts slowly so I don’t feel the pinch later

I got into reloading because-

-I needed a hobby
-I could make better ammo
- I wanted to save a few bucks

Little by slowly I exceeded my unlimited budget. Always buying something bigger, better and more expensive. I accumulated gadgets that I do not need and should not have bought, like an annealer.

But 2 or 3 or even 4 thousand more for a Dillon is just too much. I know that if I bought a 650 or 750 that within a year be looking at a factory of Dillon attachments on my small bench.

like you said… it’s a hobby and a expensive hobby too! just smile, have fun, and crank away

No there isn't anything wrong with the APP.....specially at that price. :) However.......that didn't stop me from stealing the basic idea and using it on my really beefy RCBS Summit....just to see if it would work. For depriming before wet polishing, kind of case prep, nothing beats, a single any single, if it has a case feeder! Nothing! :)

or .308

I'll refrain from showing it do .270, but the sky's the limit....just as easy.

It was worth the trial and fail holes now in my Summit.....shoulda known center would work best even if I did have to fine a longer spring from ACE. I got other holes filled and repainted....so only you guys know....

Someday all singles will have feeders......

if my Rock Chucker sold a feeder and tube setup. I would use it again. Except for sizing belted Magnum cases, It doesn’t get much use. But to be fare, I don’t really shoot big magnums much anymore. Getting old I guess

Which model of RockChucker do you have? I only have a II. And I haven't tried to feed it cases automatically yet. Just a case ejector (kicker) and a better spent priming feature. It used to be my go to for case prep, until I got the Lee APP. Case feeding is super. And it replaced my bench swager too. If it's possible to feed it though I will, eventually.

But back to the O.P.'s question.....I like progressives now even for rifle. Single station presses still are super useful for case prep......and fantastic even...with case feeders.

I have this one. Yes, Lee APP has been doing 50% of the work in my room.

If you do your load work up, the “node” is the spot where multiple charge weights will shoot the same POA/POI. If you know where that’s at and charge to the center, you don’t need to the kernel powder charges, to get tiny groups.

Exactly....that's been my experience too. And is really the main reason I never sprung for a trickler....even a hand held one. Just never felt I needed one for what I do. I would never compete bench rest.....not enough patience....and no interest. But then I don't like some powders that are hardest to use a powder measure with either......Varget comes to mind.

And yet for pistol....I still like and use Unique, which is harder to meter, yet doesn't seem to be that sensitive to charge weight, anyway.

Who says you have to 'trim ... the brass after sizing'?
Typically you'll trim/size simultaneously with a modern high speed trimmer/trim die combo. If you are using a non sizing type trimmer, like the lee or others.......you should trim AFTER sizing, as the act of sizing will change the lenght of the case. Sizing again after that, which is what I typically do after processing on one machine, is fine, very minimal change.....but trimming unsized brass makes for case lengths all over the place, especially with something like 5.56 and using range pickup with mixed military and civilian, and mixed headstamps within that.

wonder if they make a automatic head stamp sorter

brass goes into a tray, a camera images it, maps, and drops the undesired head stamp. Kindda like a Semiconductor fab wafer mapper

Volume thrown charges win short range (100/200) benchrest matches every weekend.

I don't doubt that......reminds me of the smallest group I ever shot ... and with a cheap Remington Mohawk 600 carbine in .243.....some 50 years ago. With this $24.95 wonder:

(yep, even has a case trimmer in there.)

One 1/2"hole 100 yards with Winchester 760........but again no patience .... so I bought my first RockChucker.;)

LOL! The last one sold on ebay went for $199. I'm waiting for another zero in front of the period.....kidding....in reality I have 2 sons and 4 grandsons who are fighting over it. I loaded just 20 rounds and put it away.....did I mention patience isn't one of my strong points?

to make airs for me to fight with! lol $200… wow, collector’s are vicious

I have been reloading with my Dillon 650xl for about 20 years now. I have never regretted buying a new tool head for it. It didn't take too long before I could just buy parts instead of a whole change set making new cartridges cheaper to acquire. After acquiring a half dozen powder measures I now just switch a couple between heads for less used cartridges.

I have found the consistency of ammo loaded on my Dillon 650 to be excellent but pretty much anything can be improved on. There is a point at which the cost of ever smaller improvements start costing exponentially more to obtain.

What cartridge are you thinking of buying a head for and what will be the primary use for the ammo?

My DILLON XL650 will absolutely make sub-MOA ammo, with ball powers like H335, win748, and small stick powders like IMR8208.

with big stick powders like VARGET, IMR4895, etc, I'd prefer my ROCKCHUCKER.

with either, I'd used LC once fired, and good quality match or varmit bullets, like the VMAX

GET BOTH.
