Do any of you "pocket carry"?

I simply put my Ruger 5.5 inch .45 Vaquero in my right front pocket. Unnoticeable with my shirt covering the grip. I know, an odd choice for a carry gun, but it serves double duty as my bear gun [325 LBT 24 gr H110] .

Comes out of my pocket instantly because of the lack of projecting sights.

I carry it because I am very comfortable and familiar with the gun,and it can shoot thru a brick (deleted -- Sam) house.

Any way I guess what I am really getting at is am I foolish to carry a SA for SD or is it a practical choice?

I regularly carry either a S&W 642 or a Ruger LCP, both however are kept in a Desantis pocket holster. I wouldn't dream of carrying one without the trigger being covered. I think you're inviting a very unhappy situation if it's just stuffed in there with the trigger "exposed". Do yourself a favor, get some type of proper pocket holster.

I carry a single action NAA Mini Revolver without a holster quite frequently. I dont think it is going to go off. Plus the way the trigger is designed, I dont think a holster would help much with that.

I dont think there is much of a problem with your method.

It is unconvential though, and that will scare the ones who do not know better.

Kel-Tec PF9 in my pocket right now ... in a "proper" pocket holster.

Back in great-grandpa's day gentlemen often carried large revolver in hip pocket holsters that left the grip and trigger guard partly uncovered. There is nothing wrong with your mode of carry, but you should use a holster that will distribute the weight and keep the revolver positioned.

As for your Ruger Single Action. If you can settle any confrontation within 6 or less shots you're good to go. After that you might be in trouble.

Disclaimer: during my earlier years I was known to CCW a single action.

I understand the point you're making, but when faced with much the same problem I made my own...

Why? Does you think he carries with the hammer cocked?? With the hammer forward at rest you can pull the trigger on a single action revolver all day, and absolutely nothing will happen. Also the Ruger, unlike many other revolvers of this kind, comes with a transfer bar safety.

I'd see no problem pocket carrying the 5 1/2 Vaquero. It's single action and would have to be cocked to go off, it's big enough that not much is gonna get caught on the trigger with a 5 1/2 inch barrel going in 1st.

this assumes pockets are big enough and it's carried uncocked.

Any time that I need a more discreet carry than my sub-compacts, I stick my LCP in my back pocket (or a jacket pocket) in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster.

I say if you feel comfortable with it, there's no problem. Normally I would recommend a pocket holster but somehow I bet you'll have trouble finding one. Mika might could make you one.

No If you managed to cock hammer it would turn cyl to live round . Load and carry Its a SA . I would make a holster to save pocket wear and tear and hold pistol a little more secure .

Ruger Vaquero revolvers have a transfer bar safety, and because of it you can safely carry with the cylinder fully loaded. When you are carrying the gun as a weapon, six makes sense. There is no reason to carry this particular single action with the hammer down on an empty chamber.

Yup, if you're gonna carry a single action, carry a ruger and carry 6. (unless it's a very early ruger)

And even if a big name holster maker probably won't make a pocket rig for you, a bit of time & effort would be all that it takes to create a perfectly functional pocket holster for your firearm. Pocket holsters appear to be the easiest holster to recreate using minimal leatherworking skills.

Thanks for the replies. By the way I wear 30x34 tight fit jeans and the Ruger SA does disappear in the front pocket, with my shirt covering the handle. And yes it is a old style Vaquero-how else would I be shooting 24gr H110 and 325 LBTs?

Post a pic if you get a chance, I'd like to see how you pull this off. I can't figure out how this is possible. The longest barreled revolver I've ever been able to pocket carry had a 4" barrel. And that was a compact frame double action in a great big winter jacket pocket. Even then it stuck out a bit.
