My current CCW is a Kimber Compact CDP and I love it. But up until I bought this in '01, I've always been a revolver man for serious work.

S&W Model 14, K-38 Masterpiece.
S&W Model 19, 4".
S&W Model 28 4", Armalloy finish, trigger job, Hogue Monogrips.
S&W Model 686, 4", Hogue Professional grips.

What I've always wanted, but never had was a S&W Model 15 (IIRC) or Model 65 with 3" barrel and round butt. Fixed sights on a K-frame in .357 magnum. Blue or stainless wouldn't matter, but blue preferred all else being equal. I was looking at my local gunshop the other week and mentioned this and they pulled out a current Ladysmith with 3" barrel and said they could get one without the pretty finish and grips.

But I want an old one! I have heard that there were some made up as a special run for one of the big distributors. I've never actually seen one, though. Did they ever exist or am I just dreaming? It seems to me that this would be the perfect revolver for CCW.

It *is* the perfect revolver for CCW. Here's a M65 in 3", heavy barrel, round butt:

The 3" Model 13 was the FBI issue gun for decades, and it's not terribly uncommon. The M65 in 3" was also not a special order item. The reason you don't see too many is because their owners tend to hang on to them. :)

Great choice!! My PC k-comp comes out of the safe for frequent trips to the woods. 3" 13 or 65 great choices, I have recomended many times for peaple who wanted "one" handgun to do it all... but it really can do most... SPG

Not sure I follow your question:confused: They made tons of 3" model 13's and 65"s with round butts. Carried one for a couple of years and agree with other posters assesments, a most excellent choice.

3" model 15? never heard of one and don't *think* they ever made any, but it would be nice huh:D

PS they did however make at least a small run of 3" 19's with RB, I'd love to run into one of those.

i've only seen the m-15 in 2" and 4" (they are all blue or nickled, with the stainless being the m-67 in 2" and 4"). i'm thinking you have the m-15 and m-13 (blued version of the m-65) confused.

the m-15 was the .38spl, adjustable sighted, square butted K-frame.

the 3" K-frame . 357 mag (m-13/65) are more common then you might think...folks do tend to keep them. at one point it was more practical, if you had a m-13, to shorten the barrel and round the butt.

the 3" m-19 was a special run for the postal inspectors.
