Do you clean the bore of your ....22.... REVOLVERS ??

I'm more rigorous with centerfire handguns. Might be the only thing sitting out when I need it for SD.

22's are for paper targets, plinking, squirrels, etc. Every 100-200 rounds I clean the working parts normally, then make a couple of gentle passes through the bore with something that's not a tight fit. Apparently it's enough to keep them functioning for literally decades. After a few hundred rounds of cheap 22 ammo, the semiautos might start to malfunction a little. I've never let a 22 revolver get too crusty to work.

I run a bore snake through the bore and cylinders after each use. About once a year, I clean them with Ballistol, brush, and patches. Do the same for .22 rifles.

I never clean the bore on a 22 rimfire. Chambers/cylinder faces, etc. are another story. I clean those when they start to look visibly dirty or cases start to stick or be difficult to seat.

Just so it's 100% clear, I'm not going to claim that my experience will definitely apply to shooting absolutely any .22LR ammo in absolutely any .22LR firearm. I could see how a rough bore or certain types of ammo might result in bore fouling.
Yep...that's true...in my previous post, I was referring to time spent shooting NRA small bore with Winchester 52's, Remington 37's and a cpl of years with an Anschutz using Remington standard velocity target rounds for score, and white box, military for practice. It was good enough to send several team members to the nationals, with two making All-American.

That said, I can't be sure, but run of the mill .22 ammunition seemed to be better back then (mid-60s) and we suffered no lead build ups or bore fouling using it in our non-team, personal guns. So the practice of not cleaning .22 bores, has carried over for me to my personal guns. Rod

I've only had leading in a .22LR bore one time. It happened one time and went away, never to return. Before the Sandy Hook shortage, I was shooting 2000-3000rds of .22LR a month, every month.

Never clean my .22 bores(rifle or pistol) unless they get wet.........Every other part get cleaned after each shooting session.
