Do you conceal carry with the gunbelt/holster against your skin or against clothing?

I've been placing the gunbelt and holster above my pant waistline, (holster bottom over the pants rather than in the pants), against my skin. The belt buckle either covers or is just below my navel. I rely on the length of my untucked shirt to conceal the bottom portion of the holster. 4-5 o'clock position. It's been working just fine for me, its perfectly comfortable although the weapon prints on my shirt if I don't adjust the shirt when I sit down. I'm carrying a full size SW M&P9 in a Comp-Tac Minotaur holster, and I'm 5'8" 150 lbs.

I'm new to concealed carrying, and I'm curious about how others carry their weapons.

That sounds mighty uncomfortable to me.

Personally, I like a hi-ride pancake on my belt at 4:00 oclock, with the belt through all the belt-loops on my pants. Or a pocket pistol, in a pocket holster, in a pocket.
I simply can't stand to wear IWB holsters inside my pants.

The gun on the pants belt provides a secure draw without the holster & belt sliding up your body up with the gun.

It also gives both you & the gun protection against sweat under the belt & holster it wouldn't get against your skin on a second belt sliding around wherever it wants to go.

In winter, especially when wearing a jacket, I love the $15 Glock combat holster for my G26. It keeps the gun really tight to my body and an untucked shirt will cover it adequately with no printing.

During warmer times of year, I carry a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB between my boxers and my pants.

Occasionaly if I just have a T-shirt on, I will carry IWB crossdraw using a nylon "Uncle Mikes" type holster.

Versatility is key to comfortable CCW, but I really wish somebody could figure out how to modify the Glock Combat holster for IWB and cover the backside with cloth or leather. It's by far the best holster I have, and cheap to boot.

The only thing I would say is uncomfortable is the tightness of the belt against my belly after I've recently eaten.

I can't sleep with it, the pressure of the gun on my side when I roll around is too obvious, but that's not something any holster can help with.

What makes the Glock combat holster superior to the Crossbreed? I was going to get a Crossbreed holster before I ran into the comptac minotaur. Do guns just draw easier from plastic holsters or what?

Against my undershirt and boxers in a Crossbreed.

It just depends on what I am wearing. Most of my holster have body shields on them,to keep the gun off my skin.

I've never heard of anyone doing this before. Sounds really odd...

I use IWB holsters, and I cant stand the holster, but especially leather holsters, against my bare skin either, and I always wear a tee shirt between them and my body.

Even then though, things move and ride up, especially when youre active, and I've found kydex to be the better choice, especially for IWB. Wet kydex doesn't rub you raw like wet leather, nor does it have chemicals in it like leather that tend to aggravate the "burn". My guns quit rusting for the most part when I switched to it too.

One thing I never got, was how Comptac built their leather/kydex holsters. I always thought they built them backwards, with the leather on the wrong side. The kydex should be on the both side, not the leather.

I do both. In the Winter, I wear two shirts. In the Summer, when it is hot, I just wear one shirt. I decided the feeling of the holster and mag pouches against my skin was easier to get used to that wearing two shirts in that case.

Other than pocket carry, I only carry IWB, since I never wear extra extra CCW specific cover garments and hate untucked shirts.

When I was using Don Hume 715M IWBs, I tried to wear an undershirt unless it was just too hot. Now that I'm making my own tuckable IWBs with a body shield, I don't really need to wear an undershirt if I don't want to.

Almost exclusively IWB, strong side at 3:00 or just ahead of it, serious cant and I always wear a T shirt under it. Can't stand to have the handle of a gun touching skin :scrutiny:

I like OWB for ultimate comfort but need a thicker cover garment and decidely longer one at that to cover past the muzzle.

IWB all the way. Key to comfort there is the right holster. Cheap ones are too thick and the wrong cut. I've spent a small fortune finding what works for me and that is the right value. for me it's:

HBE ComIII or AKJ Concealco iwb on a good stiff gun belt.

Wait ... what?

The gunbelt goes in your belt loops, the holster goes on the belt and in/on the waistline as designed, and the gun goes in the holster.
Why in the world would you use a gunbelt as a belly band? What "gunbelt" are you using, how do you draw from such a setup, and what lotion do you put on the rash you must be getting under a leather gunbelt right on your sweaty skin all day? Or is this a "just going to get the mail" setup?

Here is the way I carry, the setup has evolved a bit since these pictures, but the basic concept stays the same:

Undershirt is optional, but I prefer to not be chafed by the rough inner leather.
So you put on underwear and undershirt, put on pants and leave them unbuttoned, thread through the belt in the provided loops, attach the holster to the belt*, drop the gun in the holster, apply overshirt, put on socks and shoes, and go about your business only wearing one belt and with coton between you and the non-porous belt.

The only time I wear a second belt is when I'm motorcycling in very cold weather, and the second belt goes in the overpants, with the gunbelt and holster on the normal pants

again, what drove you to use an IWB holster and pants belt as a belly-band?

* (some require threading the belt through the holster, I prefer clip-type holsters with offset clips)

I did not used to wear undershirts on a regular basis, until I started carrying (usually IWB). A holster rubbing against my skin got irritating quickly, not to mention sweat on the leather. I could see salt eventually migrating through and onto the gun.

I carry my Kahr on my backside, I use the clip draw and gun sits between my drawers and inside of my jeans, barely touches my skin. When I carry my sig I have a shoulder holster and an under shirt
