Wow, you're really moving to a country that prohibits firearms ownership?
Yes, to Thailand or the Philippines. Leaning towards the Philippines. They don't generally have the crime problem or issues of the U.S., so I'd feel safer there without a gun than I would here with one. In a decade if I apply for dual citizenship, I could start the process of purchasing a firearm if I so choosed if I am still alive God willing.

A former work colleague of mine retired young and decided to live in a few different countries to see where he would like to settle permanently. He went first to the Philippines, after a couple of years moved to Thailand, and after a couple of years there moved to Portugal, where he now decided he wants to stay. So it sounds like you and he did similar research. :)

IAC I hope you'll continue to be active here on THR. :)

Eh, I've lived in the P.I. and spent a few weeks at a time in Thailand -- always thought I could reside on a permanent basis in either country. Beautiful people, excellent food, economical and -- nice beaches. Immediate family member has property and a house in Costa Rica, and we've got friends with property in Belize. There are multiple options out there, and some of of these are countries where America ex-pats might even have access to firearms.

I'll consider downsizing my gun collection if there's some good beaches, good beer and a bit of sun. (Cue Jimmy Buffett songs)

At one point I was thinking about Panama, but honestly I'm too much of a packrat to move to another country. At the time I researched it there was no issue with US citizens having firearms there.

Now that the voting ratios have become stable and the thread has drifted off to international travel and residence ...
