Do You Have a "Beware of Dog" Sign?

When sheeple get their panties in a wad about 'is that a Rottweiler', (my wifes dog) she says no, its a German Cattle Dog.... and they feel better.

I live in a community of one-to-two acre lots. Most folks moved out here to get a little privacy. Some have trained guard dogs, and have signs posted. Others just have signs... It even works on me.

It's kinda like, "Do I feel like playing Russian Roulette today?"

I have a sign, but no dog, currently. Hoping to get one this weekend...

I have a "Beware of Dog" sign to keep meter readers and such out of the back yard because they never shut the gate properly and create a situation where one of my dogs could get out and maybe get hit by a car or something.

I don't have a sign, mainly cause my dog will just want to play with you. I have come home several times to find not one, but BOTH gates open. Luckily I have a pretty smart dog, and I usually find her laying by the front door, or whichever side of the house has the most shade.

I have fixed the problem by putting locks on both gates. (Ironically, I'm using those padlock cable Gun Locks they gave away free at the range! )

Anyways, I am able to enter my meter reading on my electric company's website, so I no longer have to worry about my gates being left open. Still going to keep the gates locked locked though. It's my yard, not a shortcut or public park. :fire:

Nope. No point. The dog's right out front. We keep her leashed though, and its just short enough so the guys reading the meters can do their thing.

An old friend of mine had a sign on her gate that said something to the effect of:

WARNING! GUARD DOG ON DUTY.
Please remain in your vehicle.
Do not open you doors for any reason.
If I'm here, I'll be out momentarily.

It was a chihuahua.

LMAO!!! I want a rottie. I'm gonna have to remember that.

I have no signs. My dog posts his own signs at the windows (snarling teeth). He almost nailed a cop who walked up to the door once when just the screen door was closed. Cop was on top of it and held the door until we got him under control. He was visibly shaken of course. No disrespect intended to cops, but I did have to tell the dog good boy, as this is his job.

When I was a badge, my partner was always on the verge of shooting some barking, agressive dog. Makes me laugh thinking about the nervous owners that he instructed to "control your dog. If he comes at me I WILL shoot it!"

My sign...

I had the beware of dog sign...and a dog dish outside by the back door...before I even had the dog. ( Got a yellow Lab now )

My sign now reads..." Owner is armed and prepared to use Lethal force to protect what's his...just move along...it ain't worth it ! "

"This Property Protected By German Shorthaired Pointer Security Company"

Signs with the above text at front gate & back gate. The signs also have a cute GSP silouette with the GSP's bobbed tail & in on point.

The two dogs aren't dangerous to humans, but squirrels, cats & other varmints beware.

They are wonderful watch dogs & just plain wonderful dogs. My condolences to all of you who have recently lost a furry buddy.

That's pretty funny but they still look like one of those "devil dogs" to me. :)

When I tell people my Neo is a Roman war dog they usually take one step back and give her a stranger look than before they knew that but then they still end up wanting to pet her.

Isn't posting a "Beware of dog" sign like admitting....

Isn't posting a "Beware of dog" sign like admitting in advance that you've you've created a dangerous situation?

And having done so won't that hurt you if a criminal or civil case is brought against you. Say rather then a burglar breaking in a 2:00 AM and getting mauled, a child getting her ball at 2:00 PM is mauled by your dog.

Certainly the child doesn't deserve to be injured for tresspassing (is it tresspassing if it's not posted but a "Beware" sign is"? Yet, by posting the "Beware of Dog" sign, you've already admitted that you are responsible for the dangerous situation.

The difference being that by posting you can't claim that you didn't know the dog was dangerous. Which could be the difference in being found guilty or not, and the extent to which you are punished, either criminally or in civil court. Or so I think, I'm no lawyer.

Am I on to something here or am I just barking at the moon?

While some would agree that you're on to something, I think you're barking at the moon. IMO you're not admitting to a creating a dangerous situation, you're warning of a potentially dangerous situation that is easily avioded.

Not only do I have no signs posted,I have no outside latches on my backyard gates. This means that there can be no claim,by the perps kinpeople, that it was a mistake. If he/she/it are in my backyard they either went over the fence or through the house without permission.Bad MoJo. It will however take a day or so for the remains to be prosessed. I have 4 Rhodies and 2 Wiemers in the yard. The Rhodies will gladly take on a 300lb wild hog and the Wiemers will let them! :D

But if your dog is where you put it, and you posted a warning stating/admitting that the dog is dangerous. How are you not admitting to creating a dangerous situation.

I think it's not how easy it is to avoid the trap, it's how easy it is to get into the trap.

We have a very protective 110LB "Mutt" that keeps interested parties at bay.
I talked with a few of the cops in our church group, their advice is to NOT place any signage or the general public.

It annotates that you KNOW your dog is "vicious' and need to protect the public from it.

With out any signage, should the dog defend and bite, you can say that it is not like the dog or it's personality to attack.

For what it's worth.

If someone breaks into my house my 60 pound game bred pit bull will hit them
about the same time as a 230 grain slug hits them. :D

No "Beware Of Dog" Sign.

No dog.

Could put a sign up for the house pet, but I don't think a hamster qualifies as a "killer animal"! :uhoh:

Do have a gun.

DO live in a town which had a law on the books up until 1995 REQUIRING all mentally-capable, physically-capable, law-abiding residents to maintain a loaded, ready firearm in their residence. 95%+ of the residents here have lived here since before that law was stricken, and I seriously doubt they've given up their guns yet.

I am considering putting up a sign I saw once that read, "Unless you can run faster than 850 MPH, your head better be bulletproof!" :D

I used to have a "Beware of Dog" sign. But I dumped her, so the sign became unneccesary.
ROTFLMFAO!!!! WHOA!!!

Am I on to something here, or just barking at the moon?
OWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

We have a neighbor that did something actually quite smart:

1. He put up a picture with his twin rotties, with the caption "We get fed at 0800 every morning". I have the third one of the litter, and all the dogs are very protective of their pack and their co-pack-members.
2. A picture of him with a rifle, and the caption "I can't sleep in the morning" (which is true).

You can now choose your fate when burglarizing his home. :)

Don't Do It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the equivalent of putting a sign that says "SUE ME" out.

Something like DOG ON PREMISES, if you really wanns let people know there's a dog about.

When I had a large dog, I put up a sign, per my insurance agent's suggestion, that read "Guard Dog On Duty."

I don't have a dog anymore, but I do have a sign that reads "Caution: Venemous Duck On Premisis."
