Hi all. I was at a friends house the other day , and we were discussing his Russian AK47, which he refers to as "Olga". I started to think about it, and thought it might make an interesting topic to see who else has names for thier guns. Personally, I don't name my guns, but it's hardly unheard of. In fact, some well known historical figures of the american west were known to name thier guns. So .. do you name your guns ? Do you know anyone else who does ? And if so, does anybody have any engraved names on a gun or something like that ? I'm anxious to see some replys on this one.

Yep, the name is 'Peaches'.

We used to travel back and forth from the DFW area to East Alabama kinda regular. We also took the kids camping often. My bride and I worked up a 'name' for her revolver in order that we could mention it in casual conversation w/o attracting attention to the fact that the actual subject was her revolver.

To the best of my knowledge, no one ever caught on.

salty.

Just my .45-70 Gov't Encore..."Bertha!"

Cuz she so...well, you all know the story.

Yeah, I haven't been able to get into naming my guns :scrutiny: I know guys that have and it seems kinda cool, but me, not so much

I name them all, but it's more for a code system between me and my closest (missus, family) in case of a situation.

I.e.

Missus: Is Ivy out tonight? (Ivy is my carry 1911).

Dad: Did you stop by and feed Matylda? (Matylda is my Remington 870).

It's just another way of discussing something in a way that outsiders would have no clue about what you were speaking of...which could come in handy and won't ever hurt.

a few of mine have names.

The 870 that does nightstand duty is "the freshmaker"

My savage 17hmr is "the verminator"

The 6" 686 is "little dirty harry"

"Guido" is my beretta 92fs.

The beretta extrema2 is "Guido's big brother"

Havent come up with a good name for my varmint AR.

The glocks, well i love my glocks, but glocks dont have much personality per se, so no names for them yet.

My first Smith 686 was called "Elvis."

My brother asked, since he had never heard the story of the "Elvis Presley Remote Control."

His trip to Graceland for research, and some domestic work on his part, and Elvis now rests at his house, very near his wife. :)

I would... I have tried but none have stuck. I simply am not creative to name them all, which may be why I have no kids either. :D

But on another board one guy named a .357 Miss Piggy.

Mine get names when they decide to act up or fail to operate correctly, these names are best not used in mixed company. All is forgotten with they get back to working as they should.

Hillary

I named my first M1 Garand "Hillary" since I thought it was so neat that as anit-gun as she is, I bought my first battle rifle from the US Government under her reign. My second Garand I named "Sarah" since I saved it from under the nose of the wicked witch of the East. :neener:

Please don;t make it so I have to name my next CPM Garand "Chelsea"!

Well, I didn't name my AK, but I did call it a few choice names when it embarrased me at the range with multiple jams.

I refer my rifles by French or German titles. "Le Fusil" or "Ein Gewer" when I don't want people to know what I'm talking about. "La chose explosive" or "Der arschklopfer" work too. German is fun, because you can just cram all sorts of nouns and adjectives together and make new words. AND when you use foreign terms, people think you're being pretentious and don't bother to ask what you're talking about.

My old winchester pump .22 that I love so dearly is referred to as "Grampa", but thats about as far as it goes with me.

870P: Black dog.
K9: Spark.
