Do you name your guns ?

Any truly Russian made (not a clone or copy) rifle, set up in a sniper-role will be given the name "Lyudmila "...

It is the only appropriate thing to do.

What cajun said. However, my wife refers to whatever I may be carrying as my "American Express." We don't use a AmEx card, so when she asks "Honey, do you have your American Express?" she's asking if I'm carrying. We decided on that years ago so that she could inquire in public places without raising eyebrows.

My daughter calls my 1851 Navy repro "Mr. Smokey":D and it has kinda stuck.

Other than that, no.

I thought of calling my blackpowder rifle "Smoke Pole". But I live in Northeast Portland, and it might be misconstrued as something a tad more alternative :neener:

Rifle names

I named my first National Match AR "Betsy", after Crockett's rifle at the Alamo. I named the second NM rifle "Woo Baby" because the first time I shot it, the group went in the X ring...and I said: Woo, Baby!

Woo Baby got sold to a new guy because I had an NM rifle I rescued from a Gun Show. (I traded a pretty good rack grade 315.00 Garand and 200 bucks for it.) It had been made by the same guy that made Betsy and ended up in a pawn shop. It's got two vertical paint stripes on the forearm, so I'm calling it the 11 Rifle. It just got re-barrelled with a Douglas 7.7 in stainless. Shoots good.

"Guido" is my beretta 92fs

That's what I call my 92FS too :uhoh:

Only a few are named; Kimmy - my TLE/II, Smithy - my S&W 1000 12ga

I call my 4" Champion Mil-Spec, the "dual-ality of man" gun, if the situation isn't black and white (the gun is all black with white grips) then make the problem RED :fire:

I usually carry one of 2 handguns... both by Smith & Wesson... Both silver in color...

Little-bad is a 637-2 alloy/stainless Airweight .38+p 5 shot revolver...

Big-Bad is a 4506 stainless .45 semi-auto...

on special days, BOTH Big & Little Bad go with me!

My GF and I also use the "American Express" analogy, to talk about my "state of armament"...

Anyone Seen Full Metal Jacket

First off you have to give your gun a girls name sine it is the only peice most will see fo a long time. Second you got to have a catchy fraise ( This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for fighting, this is for fun.) Oh you have to say this while marching in a circle and holding your gun and various other parts. I love that movie.

My 4" Model 29-2 languishing at S&W - "Janeane", for Janeane Garofalo

Why is your gun named after an anti-2A lib? Do you just use it for shooting blanks (loud and annoying, but having little affect on the target?).

Why not ?

I had an beat up green chevy called the Hulk.

My 91/30 I call Ivana, my M44 (Her little sister) Katya.
Mossberg 535 in mossy oak - Bubba What else ?

Having started this post, and having been entertained by some of the answers .. I've decided to name a gun myself. I haven't decided which one yet, but when I do, I'll have it engraved.

I named my M16 in basic, at the insistence of the drill sergeants. I transferred that name to all the M16s I was issued.

Haven't named any others.

No name is a good name

At least I have never had to name any of my firearms with the endearment I bestow on all of my computers: "You sorry, stupid POS! *&*$" :banghead:

Edit: Yes, I am cursed to have been in the computer field for 25 years...the pay is good though!

Well, the 20 gauge Mossberg 500 with the short barrel gets reffered to as "The miniature riot gun for small riots." But other than that description, no names.

Geoff
Who generally refers to guns by their maker and caliber.

No. I used them all up on my body parts. Excuse me, I can't type anymore. I have to reach around, and scratch that itch on my Kimber. Some parts, deserve MAJOR categories :)
