Does Pietta 1858 have bigger grips than Uberti?

I read that the Pietta version of the 1858 Remington New Model Army has larger grips than the Uberti. Is that true?

I've also read that Pietta has just as good quality nowadays as Uberti. Also true?

Both are probably true although Pietta does take a little poetic license in that some of their models are not historically accurate.

My recollection is the Pietta grips are larger but since i no longer own any more Pietta Remingtons I can't compare them directly. I now have uberti and Euroarms Remingtons. The ubertis are a little lighter in the frame than the Piettas but the Euros are lighter still with the smallest grips of all. The difference in handling of the Euroarms vs the Pietta is like the difference between a colt Navy and a colt Army. The navy being light weight and more pointable but in the Euro's case, also a 44. I got rid of the Piettas due to poor cylinder/bore alignment and general "clunkiness" compared to the Ubertis and then discovered the Euros are even smaller & lighter. From what I have read widely, the Piettas (especially their Colt clones) are of better quality than in the recent past. Too many people have commented favorably on them for there to not be some truth it it. Actually the Pietta Remingtons have always been well thought of. I think I just had a bad run with 3 different SS piettas that I no longer have.

I have a Navy Arms (Uberti) Remington that I bought in 1982 and a Pietta Remington that I bought a couple of years ago. The Pietta has a slightly larger frame and grip than the Uberti. I like the feel of the Pietta better. I remember reading, several years ago, that when Uberti used an original Remington for the specs for their reproduction for Navy Arms that they didn't allow for shrinkage during casting so the gun was slighty smaller than the original. This may not apply to Uberti's current production.

I heard that same story only it was regarding the Euroarms guns without any shrinkage factor mentioned. I read they copied a Remington Beals model and it turned out the closest to the original dimensions whereas the Pietta is way larger with the Uberti somewhere in between.
