Brand new owner here and I want to make a couple of, what I thought would be, simple changes. I already have an Eotech XPS2 but want BUIS.
1. Have watched videos showing removal of AR15 handguards without a removal tool and using channel locks. Seems simple however when I look at my front handguard it appears to be a one piece unit rather than an upper and a lower. Is it a 2-piece or a 12-piece? If 2, is removal just a matter of compressing the Delta Ring and "prying" that guard loose? Prying exactly where? I'd like to put a QR sling mount in one of the air holes on that guard. Or, maybe, add a Picatinny rail to the top of the guard.
2. Having said all above, I see "floating quad rail" which would allow a sling mount somewhere and also a light on the side. When I watch videos showing install of floating quad rails, I see that I need a barrel wrench and a torque wrench and it seems way to involved for my skills, hence solution #1 which seems like it should be much simpler.
3. Lastly, if I just put the sling mount on the guard (#1), I'll add a DPMS "gas mount" front sight. If I can put a Pic rail on top of the guard Maybe put a folding front sight up there also.
So thanks for reading and I'll appreciate any comments! My goal....easily add a front sight of some sort, a front sling mount for a 2-point sling and then a folding rear sight. I know I bought a relatively inexpensive AR 10. I don't now want to take it to an armorer and spend alot putting a lot of expensive stuff on it.
