I've got a Chicopee Falls 110L Savage in 243. Picked up a model 10 take-off barrel in 308. Never been a 243 fan so I figgered I could change out the barrel. Well the new barrel has the shell case out from the barrel face .125. The old 243 barrel has a .790 dia counterbore .265 deep which allows the cartridge face to be .125 below the barrel face.
So my options are machine the counterbore and push the chamber deeper or just not screw the barrel in as deep and lock in down. I guess there is also the option of changing the bolt but looking at my model 10FLP the added a small flange on the new bolt so that it does not fit without modification.
Savage still make lefty actions but I don't come across them that often.
I'm thinking about just leaving the barrel out .25 (5 turns) to see if it is worth the machining and reamer rental.

Well, further measuring reveals about .012 interference ( just using calipers, haven't brought out the mics yet) between old bolt face and new barrel. The model 10 bolt is .115 deep and the old bolt is .127. So new bolt or machine barrel.

If you have he capability, machine the barrel. If you don't have a lathe, a new bolt head might be cheaper than having the machine work done.
