I'm looking for a new set of electronic muffs.

What I've got: Radians ProAmp.

Why I hate them: poor sound suppression, not sturdy enough, and really uncomfortable to wear.

What I like about them: excellent sound quality, good at letting me hear which direction the sound came from, not too hard on battery life.

So, what are some recommended muffs to look at that retain the good sound quality of the ProAmps, while fixing the flaws?

Oh, and please don't say, "Just wear plugs with your electronic muffs." If wanted muffled sound, I'd wear $15 WalMart muffs.

I just got some Peltor Tactical 6s. I like them. I don't have much experience with electronic protection so I don't know how well they really work compared to others, but I was able to hear people behind me talking while at Wade's today. And being at an indoor range, I was really impressed by the amount of protection I got. I could still feel the concussion of the guy shooting his Desert Eagle beside me and the guy on the other side shooting his 44 magnum, but it wasn't uncomfortable.

If you go to Midway they have the Peltor Tactical 6's on sale for $69

I had a set of Remington electronic muffs which are just re marked Peltors. I paid $99 for them at Wal Mart. Even Sportsmans warehouse has the Peltors for sale at $109! So the Midway deal is a good one.

They worked great and were very quick to shut out sound. I never had a problem with them being too slow. They also have volume adjustment for each ear cup.

The first time I used them was in the mountains, it was the strangest sensation to only hear the echo! I'd shoot, and when they allowed sound in again it was just the echo.

The only problem I had was that the electronics died from being sweat on. I am going to incorporate some absorbtive material into the ear cups so that problem does not occur on the new ones I ordered from Midway.

Peltor Tactical 6's -
I have worn one of these for going on 4 years from giving & taking firearm classes, to competition, and have been completely satisfied. A few months ago Cabela's had a sale on their web site and I picked up a second set for when, or if my first set ever gives out.
I had owned a pair of Radians, don't remember which model, but didn't care for them, the volume controls seemed odd and I got feedback (squeal) if I moved them or removed them with the volume on.

One minor problem with the Peltor's, if you would sweat a lot, the moisture would cause mine to get some static noise. The easy fix, told to me by another shooter, was to put a piece of Saran wrap under the foam ear pieces, over the electronics/battery compartment. End of problem, period. You cannot see the Saran wrap and it effects the hearing quality, zero.

I've got a pair of Peltor Tactical 6's, & I like them. I haven't worn the PROAMPS, so I can't compare, but mine have been comfortable, and easy to change batteries (no screws).

+1 for Peltor.

Pax:
I have two pairs of electronic muffs. Began with Leightning (31 db I think non-electronic). Muffled noise but couldn't hear people talking.
Next pair were Peltor's 7s. Very good, and I double plugged (muffs plus ear plugs) for use in an indoor range. They do "clip" (shut off) sounds during live fire. If there is continuous fire they shut off sounds.

Last pair were ProEars dimension 1. They "attenuate" sounds, decrease but do not shut down. Indoors I double plug, outdoors I don't think you have too (didn't have to double plug during my CHL class 6 weeks ago). Thinking about Sordin's.....Guess I got a ear muff fetish.

Mec360.....Give us the details on your sordin's. I'm really thinking about upgrading again!
