Probably. Ill see when they get back. It is a late season antlerless hunt. Buddy jump shot one a few years back and found it was a spike. Knocked off the two antlers and referred to it as his hammerhead doe.
I believe it was unintentional, I didn't see it and took it as a story. No, I don't condone poaching. I guess it was, however. So your posting in a public place about your buddy poaching deer?
You are correct. I guess it was making the best of a bad situation, using it instead of leaving it. I have found no less than eight carcasses on my land in the fifteen years I've owned it, either taken out of season or when we were not there, with only the loins or antlers taken. That is true poaching. Makes no difference either, I suppose, but he was on his own land.Unintentional, or not, the authorities would see it as poaching. We have antler restrictions in parts of Michigan and a late doe season. 3 points on a side and all must be at least an inch long. People have been nailed with forkhorn with 3/4 inch browtine. Makes one real careful before dropping the hammer.
Don't believe I was trying to justify anything. Just relaying a story. BTW, no potential legal issues as he died about five years ago.You can justify it any way you want. Mistakes happen, but in the eyes of the law, it wouldn't make any difference. Letting it go to waste would be a shame. I just wouldn't post somethjng that could potentially cause someone a legal issue.
When I worked down there, and in MS, I heard the deer seasons were always open. (from a few guys at the plant who were, shall we say, free spirited). Nah, just kidding. My visits to the south were always a treat. I was invited to hunt just about anything that was in, even by folks I'd known only a day or two. Great area, friendly folks, fun.I think Alabama deer season still open.
