I broke down and bought an Eotech 512 for my AR 15 today. I'm new to these type of optics and need a bit of help. I have it mounted that was quick and painless. My question is where should the red dot be when looking through the optics? Is it supposed to be positioned right where the post of the front iron sights is at?

If it is cowitnessed with your iron sights it has been roughly sighted in. Take it to the range to fine tine it. You won't notice the front sight because you will just be looking through the dot at your target.

Use this target from EoTech to bore-sight your rifle at 10 meters.

1. Take the upper off, and take the bolt carrier out.
2. Place the upper on something solid so it can't move.
3. Align the bore with the white dot on the target.
4. Adjust the sight to put the red dot on the yellow spot.

Following that, use this 25 meter target to refine the zero at the range.
