EOTech giving owners full refund for holographic sights

I just bought my 3rd trijicon RMR dual illumination. Two on pistols one on rifle. Paid $448 iirc. No batteries required.
I like the aimpoint better on rifle but don't want to spend more than I have to

I was personally never keen on having to push those little buttons to get the sight on.

I'd much rather have an Aimpoint or ACOG, which can be left on and of course the ACOG won't run out of batteries, and the Aimpoint won't for like 5 years or something crazy like that lol.

At work, I always pass on the M4s equipped with EOtechs whenever I qual.

I'm torn. I like mine. It works. But, I could dump it on EOTech and get something else.
Thats the same spot I'm in.

But Battery life was never as claimed.

I could dump it?

But, there is nothing else in the $350 price range I like better.

The EOtech 65MOA with the small dot in the middle is the best I have ever shot for speed & accuracy.

I've got a couple Trijicon Reflex, an ACOG, and a Vortex Strikefire all low to no magnification and the of all those sights the EOTech is my favorite and most accurate.
To get better accuracy I need to go with magnification but then speed is lost, there is definitely a downside to battery life but since I've started using energizer lithium batteries I can't say as I've had any issues.
Don't have an Aimpoint so I can't comment on it but but the EOTechs dual ring/dot system along with the larger window is the fastest sight I've shot on an AR.
Will the sights be discontinued or will there be a new and improved version that could be traded for?

Supposedly all you have to do with an EOTECH is put the dot on the target and shoot and you should hit irrespective of where your face is. I tried that on a ground hog from about 10 feet away and missed. I think I now know why and don't feel so bad.

If you are that close, i.e., 7 yards or less, you need to put the hash mark on the bottom of the circle part of the reticle where you want to hit. With that said all my Eotechs are going back tomorrow as I have received my return authorizations from Eotech.

Yeah, sight plane over bore height can do that. I've seen shooters with ARs do exactly what you described and send the bullet screaming below the target at close range.

I've got a Eotech 553 that I bought new in 2007. Paid somewhere around $500-$600 for it. It stopped working back about two years ago. Can I still get a refund with no box or receipt? How much do I put down that I paid for it?

Thanks, Dan

They don't appear to be asking for any proof of purchase.
Scouts Honor I guess, no matter how crazy that is anymore.

I wouldn't go over-board on the stated asking price hoping for a lottery ticket though.

Now, I just wish somebody would kick me off dead-center on sending my 511-A65 bought new in 2006 for $339!

I love the thing, but especially the best reticule in the business, too much to send it back, with nothing I like better in sight.

But you can't leave batteries in it turned off because it runs them down every two months.

I suppose I could buy a case of N battery's and replace them every month for less then a new Aimpoint or Trajacon would average out the rest of my life.

What to do, what to do???

Ohh bonkers. I always thought I'd love to have an eotech. I'm not gonna crucify them I feel a little bad for them honestly. I'd still throw one on my rifle, I'd REALLY hate to see a company go bottoms up.

Hrm..I have a 512 second hand..with a GG&G QD mount. I should dig up what I paid and see if I can take off the mount. Comments on the post mentioned refund in form of L3 gift card?

The crazy thing is, their stock market price has barely seen a blip on the NYSE (LLL) since the fine & buy-back was announced.

Any other company's stock would be belly up in the dead cockroach position by now!!

Fortunately, while I do not have paper receipts in hand, I can produce price justification if asked. It helped alot for submitting the purchase price.

I like mine as well but they also have short battery life (512 and XPS2). The 512 uses AA and is easy to pull and replace the battery holder in a hurry. The XPS2 uses CR123 batteries and not so easy to install the battery in a hurry.

The short battery life is not acceptable for me regardless of the sight's use.

I moved them to plinking rifles where I do not need to have the batteries installed in the sights. But with the opportunity to get out from under them, I'm sending mine back

My old 511 uses the tiny little N battery's.

Not easy to find, or cheap.

And it takes a Leatherman tool to unlatch the battery cover in a hurry.
Forget it in the dark!

Think I will try to return mine too.

cfullgraf, would you kindly tell what you paid for your 512? I've long since lost my receipt, found the box but that's it.

I paid $415 for my 512 in mid-2012.

On another note...

I got a prompt reply from Eotech's request for return authorization and mine are on their way back to Michigan.

Thanks, I'm still torn on sending it in, maybe I'll go give it a run this afternoon and decide after that.

I tested my 517 more fully today.

The thing is 3 or 4 steps dimmer than it used to be even with new batteries. Currently, my little Bushnell TRS-25 is brighter than my 517. That is the opposite of the way it was when the 517 was new in the summer of 2013 (if I remember correctly).

I've only been shooting with it in dim light ever since and hadn't noticed until today. :(

EDIT: Checking new AA batteries I have laying around, alkalines are showing 1.5 to 1.6 volts each and the lithiums I use in the EOTech are 1.7 volts each. Seems absolutely normal.

So, I have to decide if the perceived brightness reduction is acceptable since I have lower 1/3 fixed sights that can be used in red dot wash out situations.

Just got my authorization for refund by email a couple hours ago. I had no receipt or box. my sight was made in June of 2007 and is a Eotech 553. It stopped working a few years ago for unknown reasons. Going to probably get a Aimpoint Comp M4 with the money.

Thank you M1key and everyone else here for making me aware of this. I wasn't sure what to do with this sight. Its just been sitting in my safe all this time.

Thanks, Dan

Coincidentally, we've just gotten a few PROs in for some of our patrol rifles. Initial impression is that it's a nice optic, albeit a tad large and heavy for an M-4, but some of our guys (and gals) seem to think they're shooting better on the qualification than they would with iron sights.

On a side note, our EOTECHs, some of which are pretty old (mostly 512s and 511s) are holding up well, with only the usual issue of battery replacement. My personal 512, which is probably almost 10 years old now, still performs exceptionally well, holds zero wonderfully, and so far, I prefer the EOTECH HWS system to the PRO.

I'm not gonna replace a perfectly reliable optic that works well for me at this point. As far as its tolerances for extreme temperatures, it's been to classes in the Arizona desert, spent time in the Eastern Washington desert (shot much in temps over 100 degrees F), and shot quite a bit in the winter months at our cabin in the Cascades ...

For the earlier poster who noted Pat Rogers comments on EOTECH -- his prejudices are well-known and can be taken with a grain of salt. Though he's spot on about students who don't know how to maintain or use their gear, so ...

Thanks for the info Old Dog.

I am really torn about returning my 511 as I really like it.
But, I bought it for a HD carbine, and can't leave the batteries in it cause it runs them down turned off in storage.

SO its worthless for that.

Anyway, I just filled out the return request, so ill see what they say.
