I'm always as fascinated by the gear and clothing as I am the guns in American sporting arms ads.... Hell, maybe more so as the guns for the most part are still around and used regularly.
Seed-money was in Manhattan. Old-world mill towns were in New England. Hence the lingering connections to otherwise gun-UN-friendly locales after the demographic shifts.I find it interesting that many of these firearm companies had Manhattan addresses, including Remington.
My, how things have changed.
Great thread, hope to see many more historic ads here.
That Holland and his outfit are a fascinating story.
I'm kinda wondering about those "semi armor piercing" projectiles.... like what's the point in doing half a job?
The artist really knew how to bring the picture life !WOW thats a hell of a story going on in that one, I can smell the bacon & fish frying, I hear the cat.. Many thanks
Probably find that the knife, hatchet and flashlight, among other items, were all Winchester as well. That Winchester ad is the greatest! Not only do you have the cookfire going, the mountain lion snarling, and the startled gentleman with his trusty Winchester close by, but somehow they managed to even slip in some product placement with the Winchester wooden ammo box right in the middle of all the action!
Bravo Winchester Advertising Department! Bravo!
