Beautiful day today in the low 70's with hardly any humidity or wind, how could I not go to the range? Dug deeper into the safe and took out some surplus rifles that I hadn't shot in a longer time or first time trying today. Tested them 100 yards rested.

1 ~ Venezuelan Mauser 24/30 7mm first time shooting in 10 years, tested 10 shots each of PP and S&B ammo

2~ Izhevesk 1928 hex 91/30 laminated, sighted in and tested 5 shots of Tula and 5 shots of Prvi ammo, I have a few Mosin this is my first one that shoots high at lowest setting. Usually I can get it in the black

3~ Izhevsk 1943 ,first time testing it, got it last year, very nice not lacquered stock tested 10 shots of Tula 148 gr and 5 shots of Prvi 150 gr

4~ Argentine 1891 Mauser, I have two, shot the other one in the 10 shot challenge couple months ago, tested this one today for the first time in 11 years, shoots high at lowest setting, my other one I can get in the black

5~ Yugoslavian 24/47 Mauser first time trying it today, bought in 2008 been sitting in the box.

6~ Carcano 1891, tried Hornady ammo in it today, does a little better than with Prvi ammo

Looks like a great day to me. Sweet rifles there too. Where do you call home?

Was a great day here in central Va too. I went to the range with family and 2 guests. One of whom was a young female who’d never fired a gun of any kind.

The only milsurp with us was my 1944 Springfield M1 Garand. Also spent some time with a couple 22’s and an AR. A great time was had by all.

Hope lots of you other guys and gals made it out today.

that tulammo isnt bad at all with the mosins they were made to shoot bimetal steel case rounds

I need to step my milsurp game up, I've only got two at the moment, a 1925 Tula hex and a 1941 Husqvarna M38 Mauser
I have barely bought any surplus in the last 10 years except that 1943 Mosin which was so nice looking couldn't resist and a few months ago a Mosin Westinghouse. Prices have just gone up on almost all of them that I just haven't bothered although I always am looking at them for sale so maybe sometimes again in the future I might get more, but I have so many and as said some I barely have had the time to shoot.

The way prices are these days the only ones I'm willing to get now is Swedish, Finnish, Swiss which those three are almost always accurate,or maybe a Enfield, Mosin if I can get one under $300 and maybe a contract south American Mauser (I want a Peruvian to add to the collection) but they are pricey these days for a nice one.

So for now I'm pretty much out of the game buying more surplus, have turned my attention to other kinds of guns for now. But they are fun and addicting.

Tula doesn't do bad at all in most of my Mosin. Prvi tends to do a little better usually, but being that Tula is cheaper to shoot I usually dial it in for it like I did with that 1943 Mosin. I scored over 200 rounds of the Tula at $5 a box during the great Walmart closeout so I have a bit to last a while

Tampa bay coastal area. If you only had had one surplus it was a good choice with the M1

Jealous of your range conditions. A balmy 33 here. Went out in the back pasture and split some blocks of red oak with the .357. Was good conditions for some longer shooting as the snow had a thin coating of glaze on top and made a good splash to spot impacts. Practiced my longer range shooting turning some random ammo I loaded to use up some odds and ends into brass. Did you know, a Hornady 158 SWCHP at ~1000fps won't even penetrate 2" of oak?

Was tipping 4" wide splits of wood to 50 yards pretty reliably, and able to walk onto some slightly larger ones at 100. Good day of lead slinging.

Glad you let some ladies out of the safe to play. Nice looking rifles.

@lionking your Argentinian Mauser is a looker and a shooter. Very nice rifles, all of them! Good on you to bring those old war horses out.

Dang nice rifles. That argentine looks brand new! Was it a Mitchell's?
Don't know the origins, got it off gun broker over a decade ago, the crest has been scrubbed off, so a surplus released to the public at some time. Last time a long time ago I shot it , it wasn't shooting as high, same way I tested it before with same brand ammo, guess I need to put a little space between the bulls eye and front blade when aiming.

Whole lot different when doing ten shots compared to five, these are my test targets from way back when I tested 5 shot groups with the Venezuelan

The old contract south American Mausers were done with some craftmanship for sure
