Ok, the day has arrived and the great NFA push of 2016 is over.

With the record breaking numbers of people filing, what do you think this has done to the wait time??

For reference, according to NFA tracker, applications filed 5 months ago are getting stamps this week.

Oh, there are a lot of forms in bound. And not just eForms ....

;)

As to the question, your guess is as good as mine, but I can't imagine wait times improving any with the flurry of last minute filings.

I was just thinking about that silencer shop post. I think we'll see some pretty big increases in wait time, but I'm not sure how much. My guess would probably be in the 10+ month range but you never know.

some quick math on the NFA tracker data shows current approvals are about 155 days from check cashing on Form 1, 162 days for Form 4. That was at nominal submission rates back in January/February. Given the ridiculous submission rates of the last few days, coupled with the increased submission rates over the last few months, I see a steady increase in wait times.

At the same time, with the new rules, I expect there to be a decline in the submissions below levels before 41f was disclosed. To that end, the ATF will likely staff to the level of nominal load, and not add additional staff to handle a temporary spike.

I'm in the 10+ school of thought. We've seen it before. A few years back I waited 11 months for my MAC.

I get so frustrated with the nfa tracker. I'm always on the losing end of their averages. I guess someone has to be...

Agreed. I remember one can took over nine months. I wouldn't be surprised if my last F1 took somewhere in that neighborhood considering the avalanche of forms sent in the last couple months. :uhoh:

My first can took 10 months in the post-Newtown flurry. I expect the current batch will take at least that long.

My father in law just bought 2 cans. This is his first jump into the world of NFA items. He is giddy looking at the NFA tracker and telling me "well this thing says they will be here in 5 months." Newbies always make me smile because of their naivety. The icing on the cake is it's my father inlaw!

A couple years ago they were taking 11 months. I think it is reasonable to suspect it might be worse now than the back logs were at that time. Frankly, people waiting to the last minute have only themselves to blame. This has been coming down the pipe for a very long time.

Form 4 Trusts are running about 150-160 days from date of check cashing and trending up. I think there is a good chance that the pre-41F mad rush (plus the extra/novel paperwork) will push wait times into the 9-12 month range again.

Mike

Still trending up.

Checked on mine today...............the wait always sucks :(

Figure I got another 5-6 weeks on a May submission..................

Has anyone seen any numbers from what was actually submitted in early July??

I think you're looking at longer than that my friend. I'm still waiting on one that the ATF cashed the check on March 10!

You might give them a call if you don't see it in a week or so.

From what I am seeing on NFA tracker, some forms submitted during the 1st week of April are getting their stamps now.

However there are some February and March dates still being reported also.............

.

Yeah the NFA tracker is a good guide but it's not even across the board. It's not uncommon to be approved well after the times people on there are reporting or even well before.

Yeah my two e-file form 1's last year took 10 and 12 weeks respectively. The good ol' days. :)

My check for my 2nd Octane 45 HD was cashed 2/18/16 (form 4 trust) and I also filed an efile form 1 for another SBR 3/31/16. I received a call from my gun shop on 9/13/16 that my stamp was sitting there waiting and I could get my Octane out of NFA jail. I got home from the shop and sat out on the deck with a cold beer when my email chime on my phone dinged, it was my form 1 approval! 2 stamps in one day and they were submitted over a month apart!

My latest E-file form 1 for an SBR took 5 1/2 months 03/06/16 to 08/19/16.

Worth the wait!

Have two in holding pattern. One from Silencer Shop and one from LGS. Purchase end of March, check cashed on the Silencer Shop one 5/12, form 3 approval and sent to local shop 6/28, no idea on LGS cash date. Waiting..............sigh........

The next one that I'm really waiting on was cashed on 4/20.

The other two were efiles the week before 41F

I just stopped by my LGS where mine are waiting in NFA jail and he said he is seeing January & February forms being approved right now with a little bit of March. The check of one of mine was cashed by the ATF on 3/10/16 so I'm hopeful it will be soon. Of course I've been so busy with other projects I'm luckily not chomping at the bit.

If you follow NFA tracker, there is a lot of April submissions being approved right now.

Hint: Open up the website, click on the 'stamp received' header, wait for the column below it to change, click it a second time and you get a sort by the latest received. You can then look over to the left and see when forms were submitted, received by NFA branch, check cashed, etc.

I submitted six form 4s for a friend which were received and logged in around the last week of March. I called this morning and all six are still PENDING so it's been over six months.
